The Hostelz.com Review
If you want to relax for a couple of days and ditch the hustle and bustle of the cities or the coast for a taste of real Australia, then Castle Mountain Farmstay in Quirindi is the place to come. It is a fantastic home from home. Lynda and Peter, the owners, are as friendly and welcoming as could possibly be at this solar- and wind-powered farm.
There is so much to do at the Farmstay that it's impossible to be bored -- you'll probably extend your stay. From milking the cow in time for breakfast to feeding Pamela the pig, you really can muck in as much or as little as you want. Danny the dog, the horses, emu, and chickens will all need their dinner too -- don't forget to collect some eggs! You can always give Peter a hand on the farm fixing pipes or pumping water. This place is magical.
And if that's not enough to keep you occupied there's also table tennis, pool, various board games, a trampoline, loads of walks, and plenty of books to read on any one of the very comfy chairs, sofas, or in the cushion pit. One of the highlights is Lynda's cooking, which you'll sample three times a day -- don't be surprised if you put on weight at this place, it's too good to resist! You can catch a Countrylink Train or a coach to Quirindi. Whichever way you get there, Peter or Lynda will collect you.

We ended up extending our stay here. So relaxing, Lynda and Peter were very welcoming. Lynda's cooking is top notch and it's great muck in with the farm duties with Peter. We met some great people here too! Lots to do here -- walking, milking the cow, helping Peter, chill out in your room, enjoy Lynda's food, jigsaws, reading, pool, ping pong, trampoline -- oh and there's a TV but I bet you'll never switch it on!
Stay here if you want to see real Australia! — Nicola (2007-03-25)

I stayed at the Castle Mountain Farm for four days last December, 2004. It is a very nice farm, with a nice couple Peter and Lynda, delicious food prepared by Lynda, a nice room and nice animals. There were many chances to meet other backpackers. I am still missing the horse Ceci, and Timmy, and the three donkey brothers. This was the first time I milked a cow. I recommended this place to my sister and she stayed at this farm this April. We love this farm so much. I miss the dog, Dennis, because he brought us to the top of the mountain on our hike, where we could see the fantastic view so we wouldn't get lost. Castle Mountain left me with many unforgettable memories. Thanks and my appreciation to both Peter and Lynda. — Vivian (backpacker from Hong Kong) (2005-10-07)

The food was great. Thanks, Lynda; I had a great time with the animals. And you can't forget Lightning! Even though I'm afraid of him, he's still a good emu! — Ejong (2005-03-08)
