The Hostelz.com Review
Airlie Beach YHA has a very convenient location -- five-minute walk from the Greyhound bus stop and five minutes from the Main Street, shops, and restaurants. It is also fifteen-minute walk from Abel Point (the Marina) where the majority of the boats depart to the Whitsunday Islands Group.
The hostel has two buildings -- one with the reception and the twin/double rooms and the second one with the dorms and communal areas, including kitchen, living room/dining room, and laundry. Internet access is available as well. Outside there is a swimming pool and a big terrace.
Each room has a balcony and a unit bathroom. This hostel is quite big and not very charming, but it is very clean. The big kitchen is well equipped, with plenty of space in the fridge and storage shelves. All the common areas are closed after 10 p.m. The hostel is very quiet and all rooms have double-glazed windows.
If you go on a cruise, you have to pay for luggage storage, although there is no security at all and everybody can get the key and access the storage room. However the reception can keep your valuables in their safe. There are some lockers available across the street but they are very expensive as they are on a twenty-four-hour basis.

Poor Staff were pretty unfriendly, and I didnt appreciate dried blood on my "clean" sheets. Location is good but that's about it. — Christy , Canada (2009-10-14)

Good Clean, good location, helpful staff, big kitchen, and not too far to walk from the Greyhound stop! — Lisa , English (2009-07-17)

Nice Decent hostel -- clean rooms, balcony, nice kitchen, helpful staff, well situated, swimming pool, decent showers. — Nick , England (2009-04-14)

Actually really good The 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. office hours and check in only at 12 p.m. rule is a little annoying, especially if you were on the northbound Greyhound and just got into Airlie at 6 a.m. after a terrible night sleep on the bus. But once you check in, the place is quiet, each room has its own bathroom, and there are only six beds to a room. therefore sometimes it means having to share the bathroom with just one other person! The bed's pretty good and no bedbugs, which is an epidemic in Airlie i heard. there are cupboards where you can put your stuff and lock them, if you have a lock. Quite a lot of clothesline around too so drying stuff is pretty easy. Best of all, the internet is pretty cheap, 3.50 an hour which is decent compared to the $1 per ten minutes one finds down south. The kitchen is perfect, everything needed is there, and the TV room is rather cosy. The pool looks great, I didn't swim though because i kinda got enough of it at the Whitsundays. Overall, if you are here just for the Whitsunday Islands resting, relaxing, and not really for the parties, YHA is the place to stay at. — Jesse , Singapore (2007-06-19)

pretty clean, nice rooms, and more quiet than the other hostels in Airlie. Nice and well equipped kitchen. — Nikolas (2006-10-20)

What a joy this hostel is. Located about two hundred to three hundred metres from the Greyhound dropoff (to find it, walk from the bustop and take your first left up a little hill, at the junction, take a right -- it's right there). The hostel is immaculately clean. The rooms large and spacious. Each dorm having it's own ensuite bathroom, air-conditioning and if you're lucky -- a balcony. I had a dorm to myself for two days! Theres's a pool which is cleaned daily. The kitchens are very clean. TV room could do with being opened until a little later (ten p.m.). There's one internet terminal -- $3.50 an hour. Pretty damn good. — DRW (2006-06-07)

Clean, reasonably priced and central! — Lucy (2006-05-04)

Nice hostel, friendly staff, nice rooms. — Joanne (2005-10-16)

I stayed here and it was really nice, a six-bed dorm with en suite bathroom, in the centre of town. Go for it. — Helena (2004-06-24)
