Seriously, the place were really messy, a bit dirty, and even smelly sometimes. Yet I would say It's the best backpacker ever. Why? I had had such a good time there, the people were so awesome, it's not really a backpacker, you feel at home. you will have to find some people spending the night in a sleeping bag on the roof, or in the couch after a good party, a water balloon war in the middle of the backpacker -- that's Global, so cool.

I stayed here in June 2006. It was a last resort because our bookings at another hostel fell through. This place was ok. The one thing that got me was the stairs! We stayed on the very top floor, and getting up those stairs at 3 a.m. a bit intoxicated was pretty hard. The door on the shower (on the top floor) didn't close properly so i had to shower on the next floor down. The TV room was a bit crowded. But all up it was a decent place to stay. I'd stay there again, was good but wasn't great.

I'm also a "lifer" from Global. I spent the better part of a year (ok, ok...and a little bit more) here. Seriously, though, I don't think I've had a better time nor have I met more interesting or wonderful people in my life than in the time I spent at Global. The location is great — right outside the Vic market and right on the corners of Victoria and Elizabeth Street. The trams connect here, and CBD [Central business district] is just a hop-skip away — perfect! The hostel itself is great — not too big, but spacious inside, with welcoming communal areas. The staff are always friendly and helpful and they will do their best to make you feel at home, help you find a job, and make new friends. The kitchen, TV room, rooftop, and courtyard are great for meeting people. And if there's no one there, check out the public bar downstairs. Drinks are always being poured, the pool table's always ready for a new champ, and the couches are sooooo comfy! I could go on forever, as there's not enough good things to say about this place... it rocks!

This is the most friendly and beautiful hostel I stayed at in Australia. It's AWESOME, man. I met more people there than I did in all my travels around the country. It's unbelievable, and I can't wait to go back. You should go and spend lots of time with the staff and the guys who are there. Also you can find a job and friends and much more. Don't miss Monday night at the PB (public bar) downstairs. It's . . . I don't have a word for it. Try it. See you at the Global; I'll be there soon and you can talk to me!

I lived in this place about four to five months and it was so homely I didn't want to leave. The bar downstairs was handy for numerous reasons, first the booze (since I'm English that's a major factor for me), then the gigs and the booze again. This hostel is not for people just passing through. Once you get a good crowd staying there you'll have a buzz. It's SO RECOMMENDED!!!

I did not like this place very much. It was loud every night and the people who worked there were not very nice to me.

I spent a long, long time at Global, and even though I left occasionally to go off and visit other places in Oz, I kept coming back. Global becomes your home. The manager is fantastic, the attitude to life there is spot on, you get cool deals with the EXCELLENT Public Bar downstairs, and more than anything, you feel welcome. You can just sit and be at home there, and I don't think I got that feeling from most of the hostels I stayed at. Truly is a wicked place to stay. If only for Duncan's cooking in the bar's kitchen!!

I stayed in this hostel for six months – it was just the best time in my life. I loved the friendly staff in the hostel and downstairs in the public bar. The people you can meet there are just fantastic and unbelievably great! The hostel itself is beautiful, not too big - just perfect, really comfortable, and you feel like you're at home the very second you arrive. It's very very clean, the kitchen is great, there is a rooftop and a courtyard! The entire place and everyone who works there is just lovely. I can't wait until I'm back and staying there again.

The guys here rock!! They are very helpful and friendly. This place connects onto the public bar. Some outrageous stuff goes on in that place. It's an eclectic bar, full of interesting people. I can't wait to get back and rock out with these guys again.
