The Hostelz.com Review
The exterior of Buda Base is the first thing that strikes you when you arrive. Wooden scaffolding surrounds the building, and the interior leading to the door of the hostel is filled with boards and other construction materials. However, once inside the hostel, you are greeted by a cozy atmosphere that is kept nice and clean. The construction didn't appear to create a great deal of noise that would interrupt sleep, and it's likely that the construction won't continue forever.

Buda Base is a very nice hostel. The owner is a very nice fellow who is thoroughly concerned with making your stay enjoyable, perhaps even to the point of being overconcerned. He consistently asked us if there was anything we needed and made sure that none of his staff had been interfering with our comfort. For instance he was concerned the cleaning lady was making too much noise before we were all awake and asked us a number of times if we were sure we hadn't been awakened by her. Still, all the staff members are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They even made muffins for us one morning.

The hostel offers free internet, though it could perhaps be a touch faster. One of the computers was down for a day or two, however the owner was quickly on top of things and got it back in working order. The two computers are generally plenty considering the size of the hostel.

The size of the hostel can be one of the great drawbacks or advantage, depending on your point of view. It's very small -- effectively a single apartment with one room for dorms. The double beds offered are not actually in separate rooms -- rather, one is upstairs from the dorm beds, and the other is in the same room but separated by a curtain. Couples looking for the privacy of a completely different room may want to look elsewhere.

If you're looking for a great party hostel, this may not be the best hostel in the world. While it's located fantastically close to the Castle Hill and the tourist attractions there, it is quite a long walk to the Pest side where the heart of the Budapest nightlife is located. As such, the hostel seems to attract a more quiet crowd, and it may be somewhat difficult to find some people to accompany you to the party. However, if you're in the mood for a relaxed and quiet place to chill, the Buda Base is a quite attractive option.
