HI - Piran - Youth Hostel Alibi T60 is in a very small, typical old house and is located in a central area of Piran. It is one of three hostels with the name Alibi and the street address for identification. The reception is located in the Alibi T14 hostel across the street. Before arrival it would be best to call ahead to make sure that someone is at this hostel location to let you in.
The Location
The hostel is in the center of old town Piran. It is close to shops and restaurants but Piran is very small, so just about everything is close to everything else. It is about one hundred fifty meters from the ocean. There is no parking but the bus and boat docks are nearby and it is easy to walk to the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The majority of rooms here are en-suite doubles, but there are also dorm rooms. It is very old and rundown with peeling wallpaper and old windows. The rooms have refrigerators so you can buy food and keep it in the room. If the previous guests did not tidy up, there is a problem with food on the floor and general uncleanliness.
The bedrooms are in poor condition even for the old houses of Piran. Renovation is badly needed. The bathroom facilities are old and dirty. In spite of earnest efforts, the staff do not seem to be able to keep up with taking care of the three Alibi hostels and the rooms show it. It is not easy to find a member of the staff to address problems since they are running among the three hostels. There is air-conditioning available. The best room is the attic room, which has a terrace with very nice views. The price per night includes sheets and a towel.
Common Spaces
There are no cooking facilities or kitchen for guest use. Common areas are minimal. There is a bus schedule posted on the reception door but no maps or excursions or travel agency information. There is no place to socialize with other guests. There is no internet available but the hostel does provide luggage storage.
Summary
In the off season they are minimally staffed, but have plans to increase staff in the summer. Although efforts are made to clean up, the overall age and condition of the property gives the impression of being rundown and shabby. It is not a hostel for meeting people and socializing.
