The Hostelz.com Review
The owner of Andoriña Hostel is very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas of Samaipata, which is sixteen hundred feet above sea level. There is also a display of his photography in the reception and breakfast area.
The Location
Since it's only about a hundred meters from the main square, the location is excellent and all amenities are within a few minutes' walk.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There is a choice of single or double dorms, all of which are well furnished with good mattresses and furniture. The doubles in have a great balcony, which you can see over the town and to the hills beyond. All rooms other than doubles share bathrooms and hot showers are available in shared and other bathrooms alike. It can get cold in Samaipata when the southern wind comes, in making the clean bedding and blankets supplied in all rooms a necessity.
Common Spaces
There is an outdoor area with tables and books on Bolivia and the local area. Chill-out music is played throughout the day. There are also board games for guests to use. Inside there is a reception area with leaflets and maps and a breakfast room where films are screened sometimes. There's also a big, open fire, although this was not used at the time of our visit.
Breakfast is included and it's a very healthy affair of a fruit cocktail and bread and preserves (including local wild honey). There is also a cheap book exchange and lots of information on tours and the surrounding area is available in well-printed folders or by asking the owner or staff. English, Spanish, and German are spoken here.
Summary
Although more expensive than many of the other hostels in the town, it offers a good level of comfort and an excellent breakfast to set you up for a day's hiking.

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews

Excellent, original, clean, complete, helpful Andoriña hosts a great atmosphere, with many common areas. Beautiful decorated and good hammocks in the garden. Like most travelers we liked the included breakfast. Where do they serve a big fruit plate, real coffee, bread, and homemade marmalade included? The owners are very helpful. I think it will take a long time to find such comfortable beds. — Bert , Dutch (2007-09-03)
