Hostel Vila Veselova

Hostel Vila Veselova is really top notch. It has a great feel to it because of the spacious rooms, amenities, and staff. It was nicely renovated about two years ago and is very clean and modern looking. The reception desk is staffed from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (after those hours there is a mobile phone number to use that is answered twenty-four hours a day). Bed linen and towels are included in the price as well as a very hearty breakfast. Free coffee and tea are available all day. There is also heating and air conditioning. The hostel has a connection with a sports group for booking activities and there are lots of brochures advertising excursions as well as information about transportation.

The Location

It is located in a nice residential area. It is close to the main road but the traffic cannot be heard inside. There is free parking on site for guests and free bike storage. A grocery store is only a three-minute walk away. Ljubljana is small and all the sights and gathering places are within easy walking or biking distance. The hostel is a block from the U.S. Embassy and on the edge of the lovely Tivoli park. It is not far from the bus and train station.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are huge and contain some chairs and other furniture in addition to the beds. There are forty-two beds divided into four mixed dorms and a twin private room. There is plenty of space to walk around. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are clean. Bedrooms are not en-suite and bathrooms are color-coded so that guests in a bedroom of a certain color use the bathroom with the corresponding color. This eliminates congestion and the system works very well.

Common Spaces

There are two very nice lounges with lockers and storage space. They are a great place to gather with ample seating and places to just chill out. There is also a smoking balcony and an outdoor terrace. There are free internet terminals as well as Wi-Fi throughout the building. There are fee washers and dryers for guest use. In the lounges there is a book exchange, cable television, and board games. The lounges are a great place to hang out and meet people. There are two kitchens for meal preparation.

Summary

What a great hostel! It's a real value for the money -- friendly people, great staff, lots of space, good location, free breakfast, free laundry, free parking. It is everything you are looking for in a hostel. Guests are very social and excursions are easy to book.
