Quiet and soothing place to land I stayed in a small cabana at Rancho Tranquilo last year (and the year before) and was very happy with everything. The grounds are lush with well maintained vegetation and the individual cabanas are private and clean. The larger units are equipped with everything you could need or want and are well suited to accommodating a family or group of friends. The last time I stayed there a group of 10 to 12 individuals got together for dinner a few times -- it was like one big happy family of strangers -- sharing travel stories and tips. Great place for seasoned budget travelers -- definitely not a 'youth' hostel -- much more laid back, not a party atmosphere. I'm looking forward to returning sometime soon. — Sherry , Canada (2011-01-15)

Great place with several options FIRST OF ALL, the owner, Pepe, has lost his permanent worker who placed this great ad post. Although it shows that the place is full for any date submitted, it's very likely it is not -- this is due to the owner's discontinued use of his computer. HOWEVER, the hostel-cabanas are conveniently located, and every time guests are greeted with the same great enthusiasm. Prices are reasonable and no matter your time of arrival, you will have a place to lay your head. It often gets overflow from another place, and travelers usually stay on because of the quieter atmosphere. SO, give the Rancho Tranquilo a try! — Wanda Ludlow , USA (2008-08-03)

This place is a great place to stay while you're visiting the Tulum area. It's a bit of a hike to the beach, but there is a hostel run bus twice a day. If you time it right, you can get to the ruins at Coba in just over an hour from the front gate using the ADO bus. There are tons of cenotes close by and the guys at the hostel can hook you up. The place was clean, friendly, and really nicely laid out groundwise. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The only negative thing I can think of is that our cabana had a very saggy mattress. Good breakfast in the morning and a generally mellow crowd of people over twenty-five. Don't come here if you just want to party and make noise. Come here if you want a good place to hang for a few days. — Ting Henson , canada (2007-04-18)

This hostel is good. It is well situated (3 mins from the main commercial street, but 10 mins from the beach by taxi), the breakfast is good, the cabanas are cute but a bit small. The hostel as a whole is quite pretty, with vegetation. The average age of the people staying there is a bit older than what you would expect from a hostel, so the atmosphere is not that of a typical hostel, but it's not bad either. The receptionist is nice, gives information, but makes us think life in Tulum is more expensive than it actually is (he told us we should pay the taxi a little more than what the taxi drivers actually asked for or more than we actually bargained for). However, there is no internet connection, you have to pay for fresh water and for the shuttle service to the beach (it's cheap, but nevertheless). And the other disadvantage is that the restrooms are situated in the same spaces as the showers. But on the whole, it is not a bad hostel to stay in. — Julie , France (2007-04-03)
