Cherrycamp Hostel

Cherrycamp is in a sunny, suburb street off the main street heading towards Picton. It is located just past the train station and about a ten-minute walk from Blenheim, but worlds away from the noise and pollution.

The backpackers consists of a main house and a separate house about a block away. Both houses have comfortable living areas with TVs, a kitchen, and laundry (free machines). Cherrycamp doesn't seem to believe in bunk beds and instead the rooms generally have individual beds and a more homey, private atmosphere. The bathrooms and toilets are also separated and conveniently placed. It feels more like staying at a relative's house. And there are so many tiny luxuries you can't find at other hostels -- small TVs in the rooms, plush bright sofas and eccentric decor, display cabinets with china, and picnic benches in the outdoor garden.

The owners who run the place are endearing and go out of their way to help. They obviously take great pride in the hostel and put a lot of love into it. Everything is spic and span. The beds are made up (no need for sleeping bags or rental sheets). You could easily be staying at your grandmother's, but there is total freedom and a laid back atmosphere. Another added bonus -- the rowboat out on the creek is lent out to lucky backpackers. The owners also help find vineyard work.
