5 Great vibe and layout
Tranquilo is one of the best hostels anywhere, with a great location, terrific layout, and very good facilities. It is not luxurious but easily lives up to the backpacking standard. The sewage problem is something the whole town deals with, sadly. Tranquilo is a great place to meet people because of the way it's laid out with communal tables, the large kitchen, dozens of hammocks, and free pool and ping-pong. Most nights get pretty rowdy but because quiet hours are strictly enforced after 11 or 12 it's still a good place to sleep. Some rooms -- especially upstairs -- seem to have mosquito problems, but many of the rooms do not. The internet is absurdly slow but you can go down to Frank's place if you need a fast connection. One hundred meters to the left when you leave Tranquilo is the excellent and cheap Soda Amistad.

3 Its ok
The set up for the hostel is really impressive, two floors of dorms and hammocks everywhere. Easy access to the beach, a grocery store practically next door, and the place is tucked in far enough away from the streets to avoid being covered in a layer of dust like most things and places that are right by the streets. (People ride around in ATVs around here and cause huge clouds of dirt/dust.) Big, roomy kitchen with two fridges and free pancake breakfast. Only a couple of downsides, the dorm rooms don't have windows with a screen or glass. There are only curtains, so you get really bitten up at night unless you have a mosquito net. The paint is peeling off the walls at least in the room I was in. For some reason while I was there the water from the showers and faucets smelled like sewage. It came out clean and clear and myself and many people still showered and brushed our teeth in it, but there were a few who refused to use them and were brushing their teeth with bottled water and just dipping into the ocean to substitute a shower. I brought it up to the guy at the front desk and he didn't really have a clue. While I was there, a lot of people didn't seem to abide by the rules of washing their own dishes and the poor cleaning woman had to do it all in the morning. There is camping there too, but bring a sleeping pad if you plan on camping cause the ground is covered in rocks.

4 Great location! So close to the beach, the supermarket, board rentals and restaurants. I spent a week here and it was so much fun. the place is so much fun with great people. No internet when I was there, but seriously not necessary when it offers so much else, like free breakfast!
