I really like the staff, above all Dora and Rita, the two managers. I was harmly welcomed by them, and their advices were very precious! (places to avoid and to see in Rio!!).friendly atmosphere, clean, very good breafast (fruits, bread, teq, coffee, brasilian cae, etc), only two blocks from the ocean, very nice roommates ;)!I recommend!merci encore!Magalie

Really friendly staff, reasonably priced, nice breakfast, the dorms and bathrooms are very small, just 5 mins to the beach.

Lovely staff, close to night market, shops and Copacabana beach. Great fans in room and great price, cheap internet on site and cable tv and free breakfast. I initially stayed for 4 nights and was supposed to go somewhere near Ipanema beach for the next 4 days in Rio but that hostel was so bad I returned here for another 3 nights. More for people wanting to relax as its not really a party place.

The location is great, just 2 blocks from the beach. However, that's it. The rest mostly sucks. Really, I have never stayed in such a small place, especially the washroom. The organization was really bad. I had problems with overbooking (which were solved after), they sent me to the wrong address (they have two houses and they gave me the address of the wrong one....the guy of the other house told me that is common.) The staff is nice and try to be helpful, but these guys have a LOT of improvements to do.

The hostel is very basic, even for Rio standards. We were on the top floor which is in the process of being built, in a room with a tiny window out to a stairwell and no air con, although there was a big fan on the wall which was a god send. The showers were cold but that was fine in 35 degree heat. The hostel is clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful, altough only one speaks English. You can get by on Spanish if you don't speak Portugese. The location is great for both Copacabana and Ipenema, as well as being close to the Metro (which is very impressive, the London Underground could learn a lot) for trips to the city and other tourist sites. The front door is always locked and staff open it as you come and go, so it is safe. We did not find it great value for money, however we were there over the new year preriod when everywhere ramps up the prices. I'm sure that during the rest of the year, other than carnival, value for money would be better. CHECK THE PRICE DIRECT WITH THE HOSTEL FIRST. Two weeks before we left the hostel told us we would have to pay over £100 more than we had been quoted here. Due to the time of year we had to just pay it, although I hoped Hostelbookers would be able to intervene but was told that they would "send a strongly worded email" advising them not to do it again. Not really what I was expecting.Rio is an awesome place, and I'm sure there are much worse hostels than Brazucas.

It was close to Cocacabana beach. Other than that, I find it hard to say things I like about the hostel. For one, instead of keeping the bathrooms stocked with toilet paper, you have to ask for it at the front desk. It felt like a home you were intruding in on instead of a fun hostel where you can meet fellow travelers.

The rooms are overcrowded and the place isn't the cleanest, but the staff is really nice and the location is great. Near the beach and the area is safe enough. Great view from the roof. Tiny bathrooms. The price is amazing. 24 hour security. You can't ever enter or leave without someone unlocking the door, so you feel safe. The security guard is great and responds really quickly to anything going on outside, but he's chill with the hostel guests. You can drink and smoke outside without a problem. The kitchen isn't great and neither is the breakfast, but it's overall not bad and great for the cost.
