Great!
everything about this hostel is great. The staff are friendly, it's secure, crowd is good, and the place is really clean! Also have a TV room, swimming pool, pool table. I would highly recommend this place for any travelers.

This place is in an absolute sh*t of an area. i've stayed here three times spanning from '99 to '02. When i first went there it was a good, cheap place to stay where the owners ran the place, not belligerent, transient arseholes like the last time i stayed. I was told it was once a motel and as it had just opened, they offered us a few hours work a day for our accommodation. This work included assembling bunk beds and converting the once motel rooms into dorms. Part of that job was removing the existing fixtures such as the bed heads that were secured to the walls. Once we removed these, used condoms and syringes dropped to the floor, the mattresses were slashed to hide drugs. This is proof that the area it is situated in is bad. I saw crack dealers arrested everyday i was there, just look out your window. Two guests were mugged by the local oxygen thieves and on my third stay, the staff were nothing more than blow-ins that were insolent and carried sh*tty attitudes they had no right to have. I realise it has been a while since i was last there but it seems nothing has changed. Do yourselves a favour, get a couple of mates together and stay in a strip hotel.

Well the hostel its self is fairly nice and has your own bathroom and breakfast is free which is always cool. There is a pool but you will only use it if you choose not to see las vegas, which would be a bit stupid since you traveled all that way. you cannot do both because the hostel is out of the way which requires you to take a twenty-minute walk to the bus that takes thirty to forty minutes to get in the heart of the strip. this journey does start off in the scenic area which have chosen to call crack town. if you have never seen a deal go down look out of the window in case you choose score some in the future! this is a dodgy area, i admit nothing happened to me but i was always with two other people, but would not walk this at night by myself. the staff were just rubbish! really rude and couldnt care less and were also very arrogant with it. if you like really loud music while trying to sleep it's fine (which is being played by a stoned guy behind the desk who will tell you to get used to it). the guy behind the front desk is such a tool.

I wish I'd read these comments before going to this hostel. Plus points -- it's clean and the rooms have their own bathrooms. The kitchen is ok and the free pancakes in the morning are a bonus. These are about the only good things that could be said. It's in an absolutely awful area, there were drug deals going on outside my bedroom window. In fairness I never had any trouble, but it doesn't feel safe at all. The staff are incompetent at best, at worst they're plain offensive. The guy with the black hair who wears sunglasses is an absolute weapon, constantly starting arguments with guests. He had a black eye when I was there, congratulations to whoever gave him that. Theres no management to speak of, just what appears to be long term guests running the place. Either check out the Sin City hostel or go in a hotel on the strip, if you stay during the week it will be almost as cheap.

Don't stay here! Staff are rude and uninterested. Location -- well, you get to see what happens when you lose in the casinos, and if you want drugs you're probably in the right area if you don't get stabbed first. Pay the extra -- be closer to the strip and safety.

Don't bother staying here. It's in the rough part of Las Vegas away from all the fun stuff to see and do. Hotels are so cheap in Vegas it's not worth staying in a hostel. Get a room in one of the huge hotels on the strip for the same price as two dorm beds. It's too far (and too hot) to walk to the strip and the bus service is really unreliable. You''ll probably pass out in the heat just waiting for the bus! If you stay here, you'll end up lazing around by the pool all day because of the location, which is a shame because there are $1 beers, cheap meals, and free shows to be had on the strip if you could only get to it! The only things this place has got going for it are the free pancakes and the pool but they're not worth risking your safety for.

Very disappointed. It is located in the downtown, in a neighborhood with a lot of motels. The neighborhood is very bad, don't walk there alone, especially by night! I saw a lot of police cars arresting people during my trip. Not what I expected from Vegas. It is not next to the casinos (the Strip). You have to take the unreliable buses or a cab to go to the casinos (fifteen minutes). Staff is quite nice. Is it proper? I would say yes, but some friends got a dirty restroom. If you are lucky. About entertainment -- the swimming pool wasn't a great as I could imagine but there's great billiards and some events are organized. However, you can do some free pancakes for breakfast, all is here for. If you go to Vegas, try to get a room in a big hotel.

Location was terrible, miles away from anything remotely interesting. The public transport to get to this place was unreliable at best and as for walking, don't even try it, the heat will finish you off in a very short space of time. The area was full of weirdos, especially the local shop which is quite possibly the scariest grocery shop i have ever visited. The rooms were ok but nothing special. If you get together with another person you can stay in a motel/hotel in a much better location and be a lot less afraid.

Whatever you do dont stay at this hostel! You can get the same if not better deal at a place on the strip. They make it seem that this hostel is close to the strip but its not! Its a thirty-minute walk to the bus then a very slow hour ride in traffic to any of the good places on the strip. and if you're going at night forget it! this is one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in U.S.A. -- even our taxi drivers were asking us if we are crazy and did we know how dangerous it is around here. on three occasions i saw police at the hostel while a hosteller was reporting a wallet stolen or being mugged. twice i saw crazy drug addicts getting arrested across the street. As well as inside the hostel two different people told me about their things being stolen and after video surveillance showed it in one case the staff would do nothing to help the hosteller. As for some of the staff they are the rudest people i have ever met -- i was yelled at to shut the F*&#K up while on a tour that i paid for! and also was told to go to my **** ing room. Everytime i went to ask questions to the staff i was made to feel stupid for asking them. From what i hear the hostel used to be amazing but as the ownership has just changed in the last few weeks. it's gone down hill -- all the good staff were quitting and being fired while i was there. I know it sounds nice with the pool and hot tub and free bbq but they have those because once people see where they are they are afraid to leave. you can have a pool at any of the places on the strip for the same price! not to mention the rooms were dirty, we had cockroaches constanly in our room. This was the last stop on my trip and it totally ruined my vegas experience. dont be intimidated by the big name hotels -- during the weekdays they are almost the same price once you count the cost of your taxi to and from the hostel, plus it's not worth the trouble of being mugged or worse.

Rooms are so cheap in Las Vegas that if you are with someone, it is cheaper to rent a hotel or motel (with all their amenities). Many of the travelers seem to hang around partying there all night, missing out on the great nightlife on the strip. It used to be good for me when I traveled alone, especially when rates were high elsewhere during conventions. I made great friends with the staff. But all that has changed when the staff changed. After making a reservation, I was denied lodging for the first time (and by a very rude manager) because they said they were now enforcing "foreign travel only" passports. Despite that the room charge later appeared on my credit card (which card number they required for reservation but said it would never be charged) requiring me to complain to the credit card company to reverse. In Las Vegas, stick with a hotel or motel.

The hostel was the bomb! With a pool, hot tub, palm trees, and clean rooms, its like a desert paradise. I would recommend chilling at the bar and the hot tub. The TV lounge is nice after a day of travelling. I didn't go on the tours, but they looked really nice and very cheap. The neighborhood is sketch, but whatever -- you'll live.

if you're goin to las vegas, stay at this hostel! they do a limo tour which is quite pricey but i wish we did it cause it sounded great! they have a great pool, even if it is freezing, it helps shake of that hang-over! the free bbq with beer was great and very tasty for the price! it's a good walk from the strip but we managed it. at night though you need a taxi or you'll get lost. at the hostel you also get free pool table and foosball. they have a little bar on site. the kitchen isnt organised at all! it was a bit of a nightmare! and the breakfast which said free pancakes was rubbish as you hav to try and do it yourself, and considering the mix was impossible to cook and the pans were all over meant i didnt get a free breakfast! but overall a great place to have a load of fun!

I stayed there one night last spring. I arrived the night of the free beer/bbq. That was great! Free beer and dinner, I hardly even felt like leaving the hostel... But I did, and walked downdown to check out Fremont Street experience (light show). As others stated, it's not the "best" neighborhood, I got offered rock once on the way down, and bud on the way back... but who cares, just say no if someone approaches you, I don't think there's any "danger." I doubt anyone has ever been assualted or robbed walking between the hostel and downtown. I'd feel just as safe walking there as I did walking down the strip (which is not downtown-- for those not familiar with Vegas, downtown and the strip are not walking distance to each other). I talked with other people who walked in groups, and they weren't even approached by dealers. I think the dealers only approach you if you're alone and/or look at them with interest. Their bar is alright, like a hostel bar, easy to talk to people from around the world. Hostel staff is friendly and helpful with me. I booked in advance online and had no issues when I arrived, and was thankful for the locked parking area-- I would have felt nervous with my car full of belongings being parked outside there overnight.

Wonderful stay at USA Hostel Las Vegas; they really live up to their description. Cleanest hostel I've ever been in, fun and friendly staff, lots of activities, large kitchen, private bathrooms and air conditioning in each room. It has three Internet computers at only $5 per hour, it's right on two major bus lines, and it has a barbecue, pool tournament, Foosball, and comfy couches and chairs. It also has a laundry room with iron and board, and loads of info on the area and side trips, i.e. the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. My roomies all agreed this is a wonderful place to stay. The neighborhood may feel a bit sketchy as some have mentioned, but the locals don't mess with the guests AND that's part of the true culture, so why miss it? No reason to look elsewhere — this hostel ROCKS!

I stayed here a couple of years ago (maybe three years ago) in December, I believe. The hostel itself was clean and fun, it had a full bar and pool and events and stuff. It was ok clean. But the staff...I really hope that they have changed the staff by now. On the staff were these Italian guys that kept hitting on my friend and then wouldn't let us leave. We asked them to call a cab for us so we could make our bus, and they pretended to but didn't really. Then one of them got drunk and started insulting me while the other one laughed. They would not leave my friend alone. It's lucky for them that someone arrived to stay at the hostel with a cab that we then took to make it to our bus because hell would have been raised. I will never ever go to this hostel again. The place is nice, but the fact that they hire untrustworthy people...I don't accept that.
