The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel Mundo Nuevo is situated right on the seafront supporting amazing views of the calm tranquil waters of Ancud Bay on the island of Chiloe. It is immaculate - the wooden floors throughout give it a clean crisp feeling. The lounge is great for doing just that - lounging and watching the world go by. More amazing if it is a clear evening is watching the sun set across the waters right from the armchair of the hostel lounge. It's a quiet hostel in a quiet place – fantastic to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger Chilean cities.

The hostel has one internet terminal and wi-fi too. Laundry is available at the hostel and they will even phone through to the next hostel. The Swiss owners are very friendly, caring and helpful and speak good English, Spanish, and German. Whilst we were there we were not very well, the owners brought us mugs of lemon and green tea to feed our sore throats. They were also very helpful to a traveller who had had their money stolen on a night bus the evening before.

The dorm rooms are immaculate and very roomy. There are no lockers on the doors but it feels so secure that they are not needed. The bathrooms are spotless and spacious. There is a kitchen for use, with an oven and fridge and enough crockery and pans and pots to cook something simple. However it is best to sample the local cuisine - have a curanto (mixed dish of meat, fish and potato) at a local restaurant. It's cheap and delicious. The free breakfast is an amazing collection of home made bread, yoghurt, jams, and tea and coffee, a refreshing change from the stale white bread roll that most Chilean hostels provide.

The owners can recommend places to go. The hostel hires out bikes for 5000 pesos a day where you can go and visit the Penguineria. Maps are available at the hostel. From the terminal de buses you can take a taxi for 1300 pesos or a Collectivo (shared taxi) for 250 pesos. It takes about 5 minutes.
