The only thing that distinguishes the St. Moritz Lodge as a hostel is the shared accommodation and bathrooms (if you choose to get that). The lounge areas are very plush and you'll feel like you're in an upmarket ski lodge. They've got comfortable couches, well upholstered chairs, steam room, heated pool, and a fully equipped kitchen. What more could you ask for? Possibly more availability as the shared rooms are very popular with budget travelers -- so get in early!
The lodge is very comfortable and relatively inexpensive for Aspen. Rooms are serviced daily (hotel style) and there is plenty of storage area. The only possible downside might be the visible shower in the bathroom (where you can see through the frosted glass), so if you're embarrassed by the possibility of other people seeing your birthday suit, then be prepared.
Only the most fickle budget traveler could possibly find a problem with the rest of the facilities at the St. Moritz Lodge. Everything is taken care of and the grounds are kept spotless. Parking is also available -- this is a massive bonus in meter-eating, car unfriendly Aspen.
The fringe off-season is a bargain -- prices are lower and the skiing is still possible, but the crowds are absent. Try and book early to avoid missing out. Transport is available from Denver for a fee each way (four-hour round trip) on a shuttle bus or you could share a ride. It's also worth noting the address of the Lodge as the street splits into two (East and West) and can be hard to find at night.
