The Hostelz.com Review
HI - Calafate - Hostel del Glaciar Libertador is really a great, comfortable hostel, with a Scandinavian feel as well as modern and warm -- it's really IKEA-like). There are plenty of dorms (maximum four beds) on three floors around an open-air courtyard. The dining area and common room, with lots of wooden furniture in them, are nice places to hang out.

The Location

The hostel is located just after the bridge over the river, by the eastern town entrance. It is a short, five-minute walk to the supermarket Anonima (open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and fairly large) and a fifteen-minute walk to the bus station (use the stairs between the main street and the bus station).

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorms consist of two bunk beds, a toilet room, a shower room, and a sink with mirror in the room. There are lockers (bring your padlock), sometimes with a shelf in the middle. The showers are nice, and the beds are comfortable. The shower is big enough to shower in but changing space coming out is a bit small -- fortunately there is a hook to hang your towel. There are also soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower and a hair-dryer by the sink in the room. There is a key for the room door, but you're asked to leave it at reception when you leave so no one gets locked out!

Common Spaces

The hostel has two computers with internet (free use) and book exchange in the reception. On the first floor is the common room with many tables and chairs and a couch in front of a TV. The kitchen and adjacent dining room is on the third floor. Cutlery must be borrowed from the reception for a deposit, but pots/pans/plates are freely available. There is also a drinking water tap in the kitchen. Additionally, you can do your laundry in the laundry room (tokens for sale at reception).

Summary

With all the large common spaces and the inviting kitchen area, this is really a great place to meet other backpackers. The rooms are the right size too, with not too many people at once so you can make proper friendships. The reception can assist with booking tours and excursions (same price everywhere, also in agency) and the mini trek on glacier Perito Moreno is a great excursion worth the price and another good way to meet like-minded people. In brief, this is a really great hostel with clean, warm, and cosy rooms and it attracts a nice crowd of travelers. Don't hesitate to put down your bags here for a couple nights.
