San Luis Hostel is five minutes by taxi from the bus terminal. It is walkable but this is not recommended if you have large backpacks. It's also only a five minute walk from the central plaza and main shopping area.
Staff are helpful, although the ones currently here do not speak any English, so you had better brush up on your Spanish. There are two dorm rooms here. One is for females (twelve-bed) and one for males (sixteen-bed). When we arrived the hostel was completely empty, so they have allowed us to share the same room. That was really cool of them. Since we have been here there have only been two other guests. There are no activities as such but that is probably due to lack of guests. They will arrange trips for you though through the local tour agents in town.
The rooms are fine. The kitchen has everything you need. There is a separate eating area so you don't get in the way of people trying to cook. The TV has cable for those who want it. There are separate washrooms for male and female. They are clean and supply hot water. They have supplied us with towels at no charge which is great. There is also a back garden where you can relax or even eat your lunch.
San Luis is not exactly on the tourist route as such, but is a nice enough place to stay -- this probably accounts for the low number of people staying at the hostel. It certainly can not be due to poor conditions at the hostel.
Our stay here has been wonderful and the only thing that may upset some people would be the fact that the staff have their local friends round to the hostel some evenings. It could get a little noisy sometimes, but certainly no more than a full hostel would and certainly not after 10 p.m. On a ten-point scale, we give it an eight.
