Mango Bay Resort is one of the more expensive places a backpacker could stay. The price is a significant percentage more than the usual price for a dorm bed on the island. Mango Bay brands itself as a "flashpacker" resort, claiming superior quality and comfort.
The local staff are friendly and interact with guests because of the many activities that are organised and included in the resort. Guests have many options when it comes to keeping occupied such as volleyball, kayaking, snorkeling, playing in their games room, making coconut jewelry making -- all offered at no extra cost. A deep sea fishing adventure is available for a price and promises participants a free dinner from their catch. However, this never materialized for those guests we talked to who had participated.
The lively manager is always around and interacts with the guests. Only linen is provided with the beds, although a deposit could secure you a towel.
Two basic dorm formats are available -- sixteen- to twenty-man bunk dorms (with mosquito netting over each bunk) or ten-man single dorms with bamboo partitions. Breakfast of cereals, fruit, toast, and coffee are included in the price. There is only one restaurant that is moderate to expensively priced and unfortunately, lacks quality because there is no alternative as the resort is isolated and no kitchen facilities are provided. The resort also runs a dive-shop, but a number of guests complain about the quality of the sites visited. The only laundry available is the resort service, which charges an extortionate fee per item -- only go with ample clean clothes! Two internet stations are available, but the rates are very high. ~
