End of the Road Backpackers

If you're heading to Russell and are looking for a fun and slightly different place to stay, try End of the Road Backpackers. An approximately five minute walk takes you to the base of a large hill, and the views from this hostel at the top makes the climb worth the effort! The hostel is actually just a small two-bedroom house, with a maximum capacity of four: two single beds in one room, and a double bed in the other. The beds are comfortable, and sheets are included. The rooms are equipped with nightstands, lamps, and dressers. Two bright windows let you enjoy the fine views from the bedrooms.

This hostel is a far cry from the "normal" hostel scene, and with room for just four guests, you'll feel more like you're in a vacation home than a hostel. The main part of the little house consists of a small and functional kitchen, a living room with comfortable seating and a small television, a dining area, and of course, a clean bathroom. The owner's family lives a little ways down the hill on the surrounding property, and while you probably won't see the owners in the hostel too much, they are accessible if you need them. Upon your arrival, you can simply let yourself in and make yourself comfortable, and the pleasant owner will usually come by later in the afternoon.

You probably won't find any other hostel this small and intimate, and no doubt you'll feel right at home. You'll soon discover one of the best parts about this hostel though: just walk out the sliding glass door onto the porch and take in the views. This hostel's views can't be beat! Be sure to book ahead during the busier seasons!
