Very pleasant all round
Decent location about ten minutes' walk from Ueno station. The hostel management's directions are accurate! The en-suite rooms are small but very nice and very clean. I recommend sleeping a room with a Tatami mat to sleep on. Free high speed internet in the room, or via shared terminals in reception are a nice bonus.

During my stay, the staff was very warm and help us to find a hospital. They called several hospitals and drew us a plan to go to the right palce. It was very nice. They answered our questions with smile at any time of the day. The rooms were comfortable and clean. And there's a free access to internet. My whole experience was wonderful! Moreover, Ueno is a good place to sleep in order to visit others parts of Tokyo.

This place is spotless, the staff are fantastic and have loads of time for each and every guest, close to Ueno station but the dorm rooms are often booked but on the plus it's not too expensive for a single room. There is a bar one block away which is good because i don't like a bar on the hostel premises, it attracts the wrong crowd, at least for me. I left Kha San road annex to come here and would def stay here at Oak Hotel again.

Great example of Japanese hospitality. During my stay, was taken out twice, along with other guests, by the president of the hostel company.. He was very kind, generous, and gracious, always fielding my questions about Japanese customs, helping me find my way around and feel cared for. All the staff were incredibly warm, helpful, and kind. While I was there, a new years party was thrown in the lobby...traditional japanese food, champagne, beer, adn of course many kinds of sake. Rooms were comfortable and clean. The town of Ueno was ideal for me... more old time than the bright lights and night like of romanji or other parts of tokyo. The whole experience was wonderful, the best part being that there is no us and them between staff, owner, and guests...all are there to have a good time in harmony!
