Located about ten minutes' walk from the combined train and bus station, five minutes' walk from the old town and a block from great pubs, restaurants, and nightspots, there is no problem with the location of the homey Vilnius Backpackers. Owners and operators Fiona and Valdis immediately make guests feel welcome, whatever their arrival time, with a tea or coffee at the large kitchen table. This spot also serves as the main common area.
Four bedrooms (three dorms and a double room) are served by three toilets and two showers, which can lead to a wait during busy times. But overall it works out without too much problem. Everything is clean and tidy. All linens and towels are supplied along with quality touches like hand soap in the bathrooms.
There is a great atmosphere around the place -- it is small enough for the staff to know your name. With its proximity to pubs and clubs, there are regular group outings to sample the local nightlife. There is free internet and you can do your laundry for a small fee. Onward bookings for hostels and local tourist information are readily available. Most people end up extending their stay here (including us), as the combination of the great town of Vilnius and Vilnius Backpackers hostel creates that special mix that travelers love.
