The Hostelz.com Review
If you're heading to Abel Tasman National Park, there isn't anywhere better to stay than Old MacDonalds Farm. Abel Tasman is literally next to the farm, with the beach only a few minutes away. Old MacDonald's Farm is a family-owned farm and is set up for tourists with great accommodation options, including campground areas, cabins, and backpacker dorms. The one-hundred-acre farm has a variety of attractions, including farm and bush walks, natural swimming holes, beach volleyball, a cafe, and more. You can help feed the animals, which include sheep, alpaca, cows, bulls, llamas, pigs, and much more, or visit the United World Friendship grove and plant a native seedling alongside the eight thousand others planted by visitors.
Just beyond the farm boundary you'll also find a local craft area, a restaurant, and of course, Abel Tasman National Park itself, where you can hike on the famous track or relax on the many beaches. It's all within walking distance, but if you're feeling more ambitious and want to hike further, have the farm help you arrange water taxis to and/or from any point along the Abel Tasman Track. They'll pick you up or drop you off from the office door. The farm will also help you arrange other activities, such as sea kayaking, and can hire out camping gear.
Prices vary for the different accommodation, with options such as self-contained studio units down to twin share cabins and backpacker cabins and dorms. There are tent sites and powered caravan sites. With so many options, you'll be sure to find something to meet your needs. Facilities are clean and include private bathrooms in the studio units and shared bathroom, laundry, and kitchen facilities near the cabins. The tent and caravan sites are close to barbeques, kitchen, covered dining areas, bathrooms, and more. The office has email, phone, and fax available, as well as a variety of food, gifts, and supplies for sale.
With so much to offer, you won't find any better options than Old MacDonald's farm while you visit Abel Tasman. You won't be disappointed!

Worst camper site we have been to spent a night, 2 loos & 2 showers for maybe 30 people, all with same water source, so if someone showering or washing loo wont flush. Disgusting. Milking campers. — Diana , Spain (2011-01-03)

First night on the Stray Bus we stayed here. I didn't know anyone at the start of the day, by the end of it it felt like we were all old pals. The night sky here was the widest and most starry I've ever seen. One of my top ten places in the country. — Matt , Canada (2007-05-16)
