Vara's is the most popular backpackers and budget accommodation in the whole of the Cook Islands, offering rooms and affordable prices to suit everyone. From those looking for shared and private rooms, rooms with ensuite to those wanting something more intimate such as our lovely Beach Studios or Bungalows. Our accommodation starts from our famous Beach House which is located on beautiful and stunning MURI BEACH and stretches up on a private hillside estate only minutes walk from our Beach House. There is a huge sun deck overlooking the largest lagoon on Rarotonga where water sports and activities are at your feet. Or relax and have a cocktail at one of the popular restaurants and bars along Muri Beach. We are conveniently located to ALL amenities such as shops and dairies, cafes, bakery, dive centre, Rarotonga's only Lagoon Cruise, and much much more.
We are the only backpackers with a cafe, souvenir shop and pharmacy on site, as well as having internet, beach volleyball, Beach Hut, scooter and buggie hire and much much more all at Vara's Beach House.
Only a 15 min drive to downtown Avarua with bus stop right out front of Vara's entry. Pub crawls and Island Nites are organised.
We also handle group bookings (up to 40 people).

Fun! Fun! Fun! If you're looking for a friendly, social, lively place to stay, Vara's is it. The location couldn't have been better if I wrote the screenplay of my vacation myself -- best beach/lagoon on the island with a view of three islets in the distance. From your dorm it's literally a few steps to the shimmering, turquoise, crystal clear water. Unlike many hostels, the dorms are big and roomy so there's no sense of being crammed in. It has a huge sun deck, two kitchens, plenty of bathrooms, internet access, and all the other little conveniences good hostels have. Most importantly, it has a warm, homelike ambiance that makes it easy and pleasant to settle in. — Nathan Fitzgearl , US (2008-07-14) This place is just wonderful. There were no "wild nights" but just good pub crawls organised almost every night with our days been spent soaking up the sun and playing volley ball on stunning Muri Beach. The accommodation itself was very clean, with well appointed units and rooms. The staff are helpful and friendly and the location is to die for! Such a relaxed atmosphere with shops and restaurants right next door. Vara is clean, right on the beach, has small dorms and apartments on suite if you want to be on your own. There is so much to do here -- walks though the island, waterfalls, the best sunset i ever saw and bar for the night life of backpackers and locals.
