The Hostelz.com Review
Han Tang Inn International Youth Hostel is the newer of the two sister hostels in Xi'an. The location is great, right next to the Drum Tower and Muslim Quarter, and one minute walk to the Bell Tower. There is a bus station right in front of the hostel and the train station is only ten minutes away. They offer free pick-up from the train station and a discount on room rates if you book in advance.

The bedrooms and beds are spotlessly clean. The rooms are spacious compared to other hostels. There are lockers in each room and there is no deposit required to get one. The bathrooms are also very clean although the hot water pressure could be better. You must turn on the water and wait five minutes to get hot water.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The reception also offers low-priced tours to Terra Cotta warriors, Panda Park and other tourist attractions in Xi'an.

The lounge is very cozy and smoking is allowed. There is a large-screen TV and DVD in the restaurant/lounge with many DVD movies to borrow and watch for free. There are also plenty of books and games to borrow. There are computers with high-speed internet connection in the restaurant/lounge and the first hour is free.

The food at the hostel's restaurant is fantastic and inexpensive compared to other hostels. Their western American/English breakfast is excellent. Mr. Kim, the Korean staff member, is probably the friendliest person you'll ever meet.

We stayed here on two different occasions and both times found it to be great value for money, good location and has friendly, helpful staff. They seem to have improved the kitchen too as I read the previous comments and it seems like there are new staff and the dog is no longer here! Not going to ask where it went though! Free internet is a bonus and the place is kept clean too. Rooms are basic but cheap and with clean linen. One of the best places we have stayed in China.

The rooms were great, except my towel being used as a tampon on a previous use but, hey, still better than my smelly trek towel! On the whole, the staff were friendly -- apart from a particular chef who seemed to think he ran the show. He was quite tall. Everytime I'd order food, he'd complain like I was putting him out of his way and not paying the expensive prices. I had a pizza one night and he just sat with his feet up watching it burn to a crisp. Then he and his partner continued to giggle whilst they played around with it, trying to disguise the mess. I dread to think what with! Great hostel but avoid the tall chef!!

Good hostel and good location and cheaper then the bell tower. Reception staff very helpful and nice. unfortunately the same cannot be said for the restuarant staff. You really feel like you are putting them out when ordering food. The main chef is extremly fond of playing games on the the internet and does not like to be disturbed! Amazingly when we ordered breakfast, to save a bit of time he put our frozen bacon in the microwave for two minutes. It came out half cold and when we asked to have it fried he just put it in again! That aside they keep a dog in the kitchen which has not been toilet trained and we found that out first hand when we noticed his fresh droppings under our table while eating. Don't let this put you off, its a great hostel. just stay clear of the restaurant!
