Description

Hostelz.com's Review
The Point Arequipa Hostel has been open since about 2006. The Arequipa hostel is one of five hostels run by The Point group.

The Location

The hostel is located in a quiet area about forty-five minutes' walk from the city centre or a ten-minute, cheap taxi ride.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are spacious and vary in size. Mattresses are very comfortable and clean; warm bedlinen is provided. It can get cold in Arequipa at night due to the altitude, but the hostel is kept warm. Bathrooms are kept clean. The rooms have security lockers for valuables, but you need your own lock.

Common Spaces

The hostel entrance area has a large pool table. There is a reasonable-sized garden with chairs and hammocks at the back of the hostel, which is good for meeting people and sharing some stories. The main area of the hostel, located between reception and the garden is BARequipa, the lively hostel bar. Even on a quiet night, this place is always good fun. Once the giant Jenga is brought out and a bottle of pisco is opened, everyone gets in the mood. There are also the legendary, fancy-dress-themed parties and other events like poker nights held regularly. This is the spot to meet up before continuing your night in the city, usually accompanied by a member of the hostel staff.

Like many of the party hostels, there is no kitchen available for guests. But a small breakfast is included in the price.

On the roof, there is a terrace which is a great place to relax, read a book, or catch some sun during the day. Back downstairs there is a DVD and TV room to catch up on sports or watch a DVD if you want to have a chilled-out day. The hostel staff can book excursions like white-water rafting or trips to Colca Canyon. There are a couple of computers available for internet and Wi-Fi is available, as in most hostels in Peru.

Summary

This hostel is an excellent place to stay. Solo travelers will meet up with others quickly, as the hostel is not of an overwhelming size and they organize lots of things to get you involved. There is a party vibe here, so if that's not you, try someplace else. Since it's part of a chain, you may run into the same travelers repeatedly. Overall, this is a super hostel.

5  This hostel was excellent if you are looking to meet people (gringos) and party. The owner James is awesome and took us all out to some clubs one night with his friends. They have a happy hour every night, the rooms are very nice and the showers are always hot. Its only a ten to fifteen minute walk or one dollar taxi ride into the main center.  ()
