1  ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!!!!! What a horrendous experience we had staying here. The owner was a nightmare, and upon arrival, was not even there to greet us and give us our key, after he knew what time we were to get there. After waiting for four hours for him to show up, we finally got our key to our freezing little room in the basement. Then, when we were about to leave for a walk were informed by Peter, the owner, that our reservation for the next three nights was going to be honoured only if he decided he liked us. My friend and I said that was ridiculous and that it was unfair that his personal opinion of us one way or another was irrelevant to our reservation. Upon saying that, he told us to f**k off, stormed out of the room and slammed a door. My friend and I quickly discussed what we were going to do, and decided that we didn't want to be staying in a hostel where the owner was a maniac, and decided to leave. As we were packing, Peter came downstairs, and while screaming at us again, said that even if we left HE WAS GOING TO STILL CHARGE US FOR OUR FULL STAY THERE WHETHER WE STAYED OR NOT. I said that he couldn't do that, and that it was illegal, and he said that there was nothing I could do about it. I AM CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF REGAINING THE FUNDS THAT THIS HOSTEL STOLE FROM ME. NEVER EVER STAY THERE, YOU WILL NOT HAVE A GOOD EXPERIENCE.  , Canada ()
4  We stayed here last August in a private room. The hostel was cozy and very clean. The staff were very friendly and would leave a note if they had to go out. The other people we met at the hostel were also friendly. Most of the crowd was visiting Tofino to learn to surf.  , Canada ()
1  Warning. this hostel is a mess in every sense of the word. rude and very unhelpful staff. disgusting location -- full of drug addicts and homeless people. unsafe and uncomfortable. i made reservations and had a confirmation number and everything and they had no recording of my reservation upon arrival. it was sooo inconvenient and yet i was simultaneously relieved because i didn't have to stay in such a scummy place with such creepy people. i'm now worried because these distrustful, disorganized people have my credit card number. note -- i am a sane, stable, world traveler and i have never ever experienced such incompetence and filth in an accommodation, anywhere in the world. Do not stay here. there are so many lovely places to stay in vancouver, choose wisely.  ()
3  I stayed there and it was fine. The owner/manager could have been a little bit more helpful and he should have been available more often. You have to make your own bed and you are only given one very thin blanket. He will give you a towel if you ask. Bring lots of toonies with you if you want to use the internet or do laundry. You must remove your shoes before entering the house. I found this very inconvenient when I was wearing hiking boots and carrying my pack and trying to remove my shoes. It is difficult to find an affordable place to stay in Tofino. I would recommend it if the other options are full.  ()
1  Stayed here in January 2006 - the guy who runs it is very weird and if you are a girl travelling alone (or indeed anybody else) I would seriously recommend you do NOT stay here. I felt unsafe and threatened here, it was not clean, it was a very unpleasant expeirence. The guy ended up throwing a little tantrum when we tried to make a complaint, and we ended up not paying -which was great.  ()
1  My visit was in Aug 2004. The upstairs bathroom had many dead/live mosquitoes which litter the ceiling wall. It is gross if your taking a shower there. They don't give out proper receipts or credit cards slips, because they don't have a debit/credit card machine there. The slips are important to card owners for record purposes, of course. They take your credit card info and phone elsewhere to have it charged, which I thought was bizzare. The hostel "receipt" was handwritten on a piece of scrap paper, which included a local advertisement. WORST of all, they ripped me and three of my other friends off!!! Which was over $100 total!, a huge amount of $$$ for "backpackers"!! They claimed we had booked an extra day which we never did. We made our booking over the phone. The staff recharged all us for the full amount! I checked there website out. EVEN if we did book an extra day (which we didn't), the website states "C&N will only refund 50% of your unused deposit on the remaining nights". They did not honor their online statement. I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSTEL!!! I am writing this in hopes others will not be taken advantage of and be ripped off by this dishonest company!! I don't want anyone's vacation to be ruined by the same experience.  ()
4  This is a really nice little hostel (more of a shared house), and with a bit of luck with the other people staying there it'll be fantastic for you. Ask the owner what the place used to be like back in the Tofino hippie days. It's hard to imagine and I wish I had stayed there back then.  ()
4  Very cozy house with all the necessary amenities, nice big deck in the back. The operator seems a little strange and the shower ran out of hot water fairly quickly. But it's safe, clean and comfortable.  ()
