BBQ
the directions from the train stations are tricky, I got horribly lost after having no trouble with other directions for the previous three months! Anyway, when I finally did get there I immediately felt welcome. The lady behind the desk was a legend helping me print my boarding pass and organising me a taxi. Loved being invited to the BBQ and simply being handed food after a long day, lush and much appreciated. and delicious. Watched some good DVDs and met some cool people. Comfy beds and the linen smelled clean and lovely!

Good at first glance
I stayed at the hostel on a long term basis while working on an IT contract in Bucharest. For a one- or two-night stay it certainly has everything you need and the service is good compared to the other hostels in Bucharest. If you're there on a long term stay, however, you get to know the people who run it and the other "girls" who work there and their true attitude toward their guests. Travelers routinely get scammed out of hundreds of dollars on their taxi ride from the train station to the hostel yet the hostel refuses to provide transportation for them. It's only a two- or three-mile ride. They have a barbecue grill that travelers will use but then the owner will get possessive and hide it so it can't be used. Just little things like this -- one person telling you can do something and then one of the "girls" complaining that you can't, overbooking so you end up sleeping on the couch which is in the TV room so you can't go to sleep until everyone is done watching TV.

Great hostel - impossible to leave. One of the best
One of the best hostels I've stayed in and believe me I've stayed in a fair few. The best thing about the hostel is the girls that run it. They always have a kind word for you and are some of the hardest working people I've met. Theres a basket you can put your dirty laundry in and by magic it reappears the next day nice clean. Once you're in it's really hard to leave. There's something about the hostel that sucks you in. I even met a guy who actually lives in Bucharest but spends most of his time at the hostel he likes it so much. Highly recommended!

i had a booking for two nights, due to an impediment, i could not go, i canceled it three days prior to arriving, then made a booking with a certain receptionist called diana for an other period, we have booked two persons in a three-bedded room and were willing to pay for three beds that is 26 euros per night. upon arrival the lady said that they have booked two beds in dorms. of course, after having walked half bucharest with my mother, we wanted to rest and have a separate room, they could not explain how they downgraded us without letting us know. i have stayed in hostels all over europe and i think this is unacceptable, they did not even offer to find us a room in an other hotel, not even apologize and basically threatened to get us out by the security and i did not shout at the receptionist, i just said how could you do that, how did this happen? really really disappointed by their services. extremely bad. i will never go there again.

This hostel has been like an oasis for me in the city of Bucharest, which hasn't been such a wonderful experience. The hostel however, with its very kind staff, has given me some very good memories of Romania!

We didn't actually stay in the hostel as there were no rooms, but after being scammed out of 1000 lei at the train station (around 200 pounds - don't accept a taxi and make sure you know the new currency conversion!), they were brilliant at looking after us and making sure that we had somewhere to stay. The staff speak great English and are lovely -- they really went out of their way for us and the place itself looks fantastic -- very clean and lots of amenities. I would definitely stay there if I went back to Bucharest!

We stayed here in July 2006, and it definitely has more amenities than your average hostel. The beds are new and comfortable, the private rooms have air conditioning, and everything else such as free computer/internet, PS2, etc. There are really comfortable common areas for hanging out or watching TV, and the kitchen, although small, is functional. If you're going to Bucharest and you want to stay cheaply, this is a great place. A few little things were annoying, but not deal-breakers -- they ran out of drinking water, coffee wasn't always available (even in the morning), metro tickets weren't available, not enough showers (only two showers for the whole hostel!) after we arranged for a ride to the train station with the owner, he cancelled at the last minute, and the directions are wrong from the bus stop, so we got totally lost when we first arrived. Note -- after exiting from the bus, cross the busy street and turn left, then turn right on the second street. Overall, I definitely recommend the Butterfly Villa -- excellent value, very nice people, and great amenities!

Best friendly all around service and effordable. This is a hostel that gives you more then service. It is more like being member of family. They welcome you from the heart and making sure you are safe and well taking care of during your stay in Bucharest not just in the hostel but with all the information you need for what to do and what to be carefull of. It is my best advice to listen to what instruction they give and enjoy your stay! There is no better place i like to stay in Bucharest then Butterfly Villa Hostel with a cute little market place just few metres away and very central anywhere that you like to go in the city!!!

This place has it all: — Good, clean, comfortable, new beds, bathrooms and accommodated kitchen for a low price. — 2-hour free Internet access on two computers in the lobby. — TV room with Playstation and free DVD rental. — Very friendly and helpful staff, who really care. — Free laundry service. — Lockers. — Low-rate soft drinks and beer. — Excellent breakfast included. — 24-hour reception with loads of information, which sells bus tickets and calls (inexpensive) taxis — Good location: there's a market across the street, virtually next to a bus station (bus to city center: 10-15 minutes, bus to train station: 10 minutes) but on a safe and quiet street. — A crazy house cat. — 24-hour free coffee, tea and water.

It's really true; I never wanted to leave. I showed up at the hostel and immediately felt happy. The owners and the guys who work there are genuinely wonderful people, and after one night I felt like I had lived with them for a long time. The atmosphere is great, the place is spotless, and it's right near some of the coolest and most beautiful things in the city...the Village Museum and the Park Herastrau. I can't recommend it more highly.

One of the best hostels in Europe. It has everything a traveler wants, such as hot power showers, comfy dorm beds, great breakfast and friendly staff, all for 9 euros. The hostel is spotlessly clean and roomy and it's truly just like being at home with a sofa to chill out and watch some TV or outside to sit and relax with a coffee. You can buy bus and Metro tickets at the hostel and the staff offers good information about the city or country. We loved this place and the staff makes you feel very welcome and helps you in any way. If you're in Bucharest, Butterfly Villa is the place to stay — awesome hostel!

This hostel is AMAZING! It is my favorite hostel I have ever stayed in. It is a little out of town but has excellent bus connections into the city. The owners are super friendly and would do anything to help. The beds are so comfy, and the showers are brilliant. The breakfast is yummy. It feels like a home and I can't stop raving about it.
