The Hostelz.com Review
Deco Hostel is a recently remodeled multi-floor hostel that is part of a larger residential building. The facilities are impeccably clean and quiet. The layout is somewhat unique in that on each floor there is an entry into a common area with lockers and coat racks and separate rooms come off of the separate common areas. There are single toilet rooms separate from the wash rooms (they seemed few next to the number of guests they accommodate). Short waits for the showers and sinks were common especially at bedtime.

The communal kitchen/internet/dining area seemed relatively small for a hostel. There's only one standard stove, sink, and microwave, all lined up on the back wall of the room. Breakfast (cereal and milk) is served here every morning. Two free internet terminals are available, which is a bonus. There didn’t seem to be any lounge area.

Deco is not the place to go if you’re looking for a party or planning on stumbling in loudly late from one, but if you’re looking for a clean bed and a quiet place to sleep in after exploring Krakow, this is the place for you. It is a realistic thirty-minute walk from the train station if you have luggage of any sort and fifteen minutes from town center.

5 A place to stay without hesitation!
I stayed here in mid-April for four nights while awaiting a colleague to join me during his Easter break. Since I required en-suite private room (lowest level), there was none available for two persons on the ground floor. Not wanting to be separated for an additional week, I made other arrangements at a nearby apartment. I would have preferred to remain at the hostel because I found the staff to be most helpful and the driver, Marcin, a delight to deal with. His fees for visits to other cities (Zakopane) were very reasonable. He was on time for transfers to/from the airport. Moreover, his knowledge of the English language was most impressive. Cab fare to/from the hostel/main square averaged about ten zlotych ($3) at the then current rate of exchange. The distance to a tram stop (nn. 3 and 5), which head south to the main square, is about five minutes (depending on age and agility). I am seventy-four! The fares are very inexpensive. Ask for details at the hostel for a seven-days pass (or for fewer days). Students receive a discounted rate. The free breakfast was adequate. There is a grocery story about one block north with a variety of food items for snacks. No one ever absconded with a few goodies I stored in the refrigerator. Laundry service (wash and dry) was timely (first load free). Water was very hot for showering. Room heater worked well for some of the colder nights in April. If I were to return to Krakow again (my favorite city in Poland), without doubt I would stay at Deco hostel. I intend to recommend this hostel to others who may plan visits to Poland in the future.

5 I had a blast!
This hostel really made my time in Krakow. The staff were super friendly and gave some great advice about clubs and the like. Really great common room and kitchen to meet great people. Clean rooms, the works. Thanks for the good times!

5 Going back if I can!
This hostel was wonderful! From the moment I walked in I was greeted by the friendliest of people. Not only were they friendly, but they spoke english! I got up to my room and it was as clean as any hotel I've stayed in. Breakfast was great with granola and sandwiches. After a day of walking around and looking at things I'd come back and talk to the staff. They are very easy to get along with and they will help you with anything. If you get get a chance to meet Kab, do so, he is a very sweet and fun guy to talk to! Next time I go back to Krakow I'm staying here again!

4 To be recommended
I stayed there during four nights at the end of January. During this time it was not very frequented, but it's still winter! The staff are polite, helpful, and they were always listening to my problems. I've got informations about the city, nightlife, where to buy this and that and bus connections to town (thanks Keb!). Every time I could have a small talk and the kitchen is in the same stylish way like the rest of all the rooms. Very relaxed atmosphere. Please note -- If you want to stay in the city center you have to pay more, maybe without style! Why only four stars within rating? There should always be something to upgrade.

5 More than you bargain for
Krakow is a gorgeous city with and we stayed at an evenly gorgeous hotel -- Deco. The building/interior is absolutely beautiful original art deco. the staff is very friendly and helpful, not to mention their excellent knowledge of the English language! They advertise white crisp linen and yes, they absolutely deliver. Bathroom was very clean, showers good too. We packed our breakfast sandwich to go as lunch, since you can have scrumptious (and cheap) large breakfasts anywhere in the city on the market square. Don't forget to rent a bike -- the best way to check out the lovely parks and little squares of Krakow.

5 This was a wonderful hostel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The kitchen was very clean and available (we cooked some great meals). The room was clean and spacious. It had everything we needed and was only a ten-minute walk to the main square. I would definitely recommend this hostel!

4 I stayed at the Deco in late October. First of all, Krakow is a beautifull city. So much history, architecture, culture. And even warm in end of October - people on the street actually in shorts! The Deco Hostel was conveniently located not far (three tram stops) from the Central Station. Nice athmosphere, friendly staf, good price/quality -level. In all, the prices in Krakow seem to be 10-20 % lower than in Warsow. Stayed in a single room. Simple, but clean. I liked the wooden floors! Excellent sleep between snow-white linen in comfortable bed. Free internet! I'll come back!

5 I would thoroughly recommend the Deco Hostel to anyone visiting Krakow! It's a lot closer to town than it maybe looks on the map and the rooms are modern, very clean, and stylish. The building itself has a lot of character and the staff are all very friendly, speak good English, and help to make your stay an enjoyable one. The breakfast is a little on the basic side, but I certainly wouldn't let that change your mind. it's a great place to stay and as long as you're not looking to party twenty-four/seven I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied -- free internet is a bonus too.

5 The Deco Hostel is an excellent hostel. We stayed there for a weekend and it was fantastic. The staff is more than willing to help. The owner of the hostel drove with me to the train station in order to do the translation for me. The rooms are very nice and clean (the beds are as comfy as everybody says). Our room was on the top and we had to climb a lot of stairs. However it was well worth it. It was quiet. It will take you about ten minutes to walk right into town. The breakfast was reasonable. You can have unlimited takings of Cornflakes and chocolate clusters. I highly recommend it. Enjoy your stay!

4 Deco Hostel is a very friendly and inviting place, some of the people on reception are very helpful and talkative. The room we stayed in was very clean with nice crisp white bed linen. The toilets and showers were also clean and the fixtures and fittings were new and in good working order. The only slightly negative comment I can come up with is that breakfast being limited to one sandwich per person is a bit frugal, although there was also cereal available. We appreciated the cozy and quiet environment and would most definitely stay at the hostel again.

5 I was deciding between a hostel that was nearer the old town sqare or Deco Hostel, which is about fifteen minutes' walk away. Finally, I decided on Deco Hostel. And was I glad I made that decision! Deco Hostel turned out to be one of the best places I stayed at during my holiday in Europe. The place is impeccably clean, with great shower facilities (you get "reliable" hot water, not one that spouts out icy cold water even when the heater is turned on!). There's even free internet and breakfast! Perhaps what impressed me the most was the very helpful staff. They went out of their way to help me make my stay in the hostel, as well as my time in Krakow, a most enjoyable one. I highly recommend Deco Hostel to anyone looking for a relaxed, cosy, and good night's rest. It's definitely value-for-money!

5 Friendly, open and quiet atmosphere, good quality beds, clean bright white sheets and towels, good bathrooms, well equipped common kitchen, convenient laundry service available. Kind personell, lovely young ladies behind the service desk, good advice and touristic information. Their aim is to bring, as far as possible, the building back to its typical Art Deco character -- watch the little details, the furniture, pictures, and paintings on the walls. Many more details will be added as a project like this takes time, research, and experimenting -- a real challenge and if I lived in Krakow, I certainly would like to participate in such a project!

5 This place is clean, the staff are fantastic, and the location is walking distance to the centre. We had a nice spacious, quiet double. The young women at the front desk were friendly and helpful with maps, suggestions, and laundry. Breakfast in the kitchen was basic but easy enough to access. The free internet was usually available. This place was overall quiet and great for people to get a full night's sleep after sightseeing.

5 All I want to say is that Deco hostel is clean and friendly hostel. Although I had some bad experiences in Poland, the staff and the kitchen with internet and with all the facilities in the building is excellent.

5 This is an outstanding hostel, with lots of charm. The mattresses were very comfortable; the rooms and bathroom were immaculate. The warm comforters were a welcome change from the typically threadbare blankets provided at other hostels. It's a quiet hostel — not for guests looking for a party — located about a 10-15 minute walk north of the Market Square. When my friend and I visited the hostel in late September 2005, the hostel had been open for only a few weeks. The owners were in the midst of renovating the place. It looked great when we there and will look even better when they are finished. The owners washed my laundry and ironed my pants and shirt. The reception staff were friendly and knowledgeable on areas of interest in and around Krakow. Simply put, this is a great hostel. I look forward to staying here whenever I return to Krakow.
