The Madison Hotel is definitely a comfortable place to stay. There are just three beds per room in dorm rooms (with linens provided) and a sink in the room. There are communal restrooms with sinks that have GO-JO for extra-messy hands, communal showers with only one shower per room, and hair dryers in shower rooms. The hostel also offers a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee and hot chocolate in the mornings. There is, however, no full kitchen for cooking, and this is the only thing that prevents a five-star rating in this category.
If the hostel's authentic Yellowstone-style lodge architecture and furnishings (oversize log poles), very friendly hosts, and location in the quaint little tourist town don't give you a true sense of place while you're here, you're just not trying!
There is limited tourist town nightlife and boutique shopping, an IMAX theatre, and museums, but is that even why you came? This hostel sits right on Yellowstone's doorstep, and is especially close to fly fishing in the Madison river and the geothermal regions on the west side of the park, including Old Faithful and the pictured Norris Geyser Basin. There are many fly fishing outfitters, bike rental (Yellowstone Bicycle and Video), and dozens of restaurants within a few blocks of the hostel.
It's not the cheapest in the world, but it still won't bankrupt the budget traveler. For a jumping off point into Yellowstone, there's still no better value. Now if only the other gateway towns like Cody, Gardiner, and Cooke City had something this cool!
