Terrible I have never stayed in a place so dirty or so scary. I only booked one night at the last minute and had no recourse but to stay. The sheets had blood stains! The sink and toilet in the first room had not been cleaned at all in weeks. I moved to the cleanest room and it was only moderately better. It looked like a retirement home for hookers, with older, tarted up, drugged out looking women hanging out with pimps on the deck. Scary and loud. Never, never stay here.

Terrible This is no longer a Hostel. Just a crappy half-star motel. It is right next to the beach but it's in a seedy part of town. Truth be known most of myrtle beach is unclean. steer clear of this $49 a night Bates Motel wannabe.

I enjoyed it -- i'm staying there again this year Last year during senior week 2007. Me and about four of my friends stayed in one of the three-bedroom suites! It was very affordable and a great place to stay! The rooms were nice. The only thing is we would usually need towels before they did their rounds, so we would have to go and get them! But we are going to stay there for Black Bike Week 2008! I can't wait!

This is a shame I have not stayed here in several decades, but I can tell you that when the Farrars owned and operated this motel, you would have had no complaints except for maybe one. Back in the early '70s there were no phones in the rooms! But the owners would come to your room and get you for calls that you might receive. I don't know what happened to this family and am sorry to learn they left the business and that it has gone down such as this. It was a place that gave me the best years on going to the beach as a teenager. In fact, my first love was found right there in the family. Too bad I let him get away also.

Disgusted! I booked this motel three months in advance. I just arrived home today after staying at Wayfarer Motel for a week. I mainly picked this motel among the others in Myrtle Beach because of the stove available in our room. My family wanted to save some money by cooking our own meals. The week we stayed the temperatures soared to 103 degrees with plenty of humidity! The air condition units in both of our rooms were cool. Furthermore, the oven did cook our food. However, some knobs were missing. Some of the staff were nice and the pool was in decent shape. Due to soaring heat temperatures we spent more time in our room than we expected to. I was well aware the motel was outdated and a little rundown, but after all we weren't at the beach to be in the motel all day long. There were two rooms that faced a brick wall. My mom politely asked to be moved (there were a lot of empty rooms) and the manager said he would ask and never got back to her. Housekeeping, although the ladies were nice, put sheets and towels on the bed but never changed sheets or cleaned. They simply vacuumed. The kitchen area was filthy and was bare with utensils, pots, and pans. I was only provided a rusty, dirty pot. Linens were dirty and towels were rough as could be. There was also mold and dirt everywhere. I even had a cockroach crawl up my leg, no lie! But words can only tell so much. We paid $70 a night, per room. If you can do without a stove, there are better places out there!

good for the price I stayed at this hotel grad week 2007 and i thought it was very nice. I paid a small amount of money and it really wasnt all that bad. It was right across from the beach, and only a couple blocks from the strip. we walked everywhere we went. My friends and I were able to sit outside one a nice quiet nite with no trouble. It was actually quite nice to watch the intersting people that walked by. All together it was a great experience.

The second time the room was ok and the rates were outragious but it was the 4th of july so go figure. The folks at the front desk were not so friendly but who gives a damn as long as I can party raise hell and enjoy myself.

This is the worst nightmare I've ever experienced since I started staying in motels thirty years ago. The night I stayed there all I saw and heard was prostitutes and drug dealers. It's in a horrible part of town and frequented by people looking for drugs and prostitutes all night. I was going to walk to a nearby convenience store but was warned by another guest it was not safe to be outside after dark! I basically fled the place to another hotel in the immediate area that is far better. This hellhole should be closed and torn down!

I have stayed at the Wayfarer for Black Bike Week in May 2002 and 2003, and will probably stay there in 2007 too. Although other patrons made statements about the staff being rude, I didn't experience that at all. The first year, my travel agent booked me there by mistake, but it turned out to be a good location. (I thought I was booking the Southside of the beach). The Southside is quiet and where all the happenings are (the strip), but the Northside is loud and where the loud folks cruise all night long! It was cool, though, because I'm used to that scene. In 2002, the ladies where actually friendly. (People usually treat you the way you treat them!) They checked on me and my girls often and changed the linen daily. They even gave us some colored cloths for our faces (make-up) as well as clean white ones for body wash (of course your Mama always taught you to take your own towels!). In 2003, when Rocky was there, he wasn't the friendliest person, but I think thats just him, but he did help a group of my friends that flew down with three extra girls. He upgraded their room to a suite and didn't charge them any extra and they just paid the difference. Now what other hotel/motel would do this without trying to make an extra quick buck? Over all, it was very reasonably priced, compared to other hotels within a five-mile radius North or South of Fourth Ave. and it's not the Hilton, so don't expect room service or a mint on your pillow. Remember, you get what you pay for!

i stayed at the wayfarer in july of 2005 and i think that it was a great place for the money. it is inexpensive, directly across the street from beach and to me the staff was polite, although scarce. our sheets were changed daily and other than how loud the the music in the passing cars were i didnt have a complaint. there is also a great ice cream parlor across the street. all in all you get what you pay for at the wayfarer

The Wayfarer was what I expected for what we paid. If you are on a very tight budget but you want to experience Myrtle Beach, this is the way to go. Bring your own soaps, shampoos, food, etc because this is shelter without the frills. I liked that the man at the front desk asked not how many people would be staying in the room, as they typically do in hotels, but how many beds we'd need. We paid accordingly. It was a bit shabby, but again, it is the best deal you are going to find so close to the beach. You walk right across the road to the ocean, you have a view of the ocean from the deck that circles all of the rooms on the upper level. My only complant was that there was partying outside my door all night (and, it seemed, some small-scale drug deals too) but again, this is what one should expect at such a place. Bottom line..don't stay there with kids, but it is a great place for young people on a tight budget to stay. I thought it was great that we had a fridge and stove in our room -- very convienent.

This place is not really a hostel. It is an old hotel/motel that is under new management. It may have been nice in the 60s, but has not been updated since. The staff are nice, but the room left much to be desired. Duct tape held parts of the ceiling together. It's advertised as having a kitchen but has no dishes, silverware, or cups. Worst of all, the area is unsafe. The hotel backs up to a rough neighborhood with lots of questionable activity. I did not feel safe sitting on the porch or being outside. This place is definitely not family friendly. It's way overpriced. It's placed on the strip where people in loud cars cruise up and down the street in loud cars. We had to completely change our plans and waste lots of time finding a decent place to stay. The desk clerk talked up this place like it was the Ritz.

The hotel is under new management and is improving daily. The new owner is investing money daily to upgrade the property. It's one of the least expensive places in Myrtle Beach, but still a good value for the money.

This place is a waste of time. It is a big rip off, and as you can see the staff are very rude. Never stay here!

This is not really a hostel in any way, shape, or form. It is almost entirely a motel so I don't know why it's listed here. Anyway, the rooms were comfortable and clean and the rates are good, but the staff was not very friendly. The only time I saw them was when I checked in. They were not there any other time, not even at check out. I had to call the owner at home and she told me to leave the key in my room. But if you are on a tight budget, this place will do.
