The Hostelz.com Review
When you first check into A&O City Hostel Holesovice Prague, you don’t really get the hostel vibe, as it seems more like a nice, mid-priced hotel when you arrive in the lobby. Having stayed in many dodgy hostels around the world, we really enjoy when the place is nice and clean. The receptionists are very friendly here and quickly get you to your room with courtesy and promptness, and invite you to let them know if you need anything!
The Location
Located in one of the greener areas of Prague, just a tram stop away from the Holesovice Nadrazi station and across from the world famous Vystaviste park, you can spend your days idling in the grass or even follow the winding footpaths up to Letna beer gardens. Since the reception is open twenty-four hours, you can come back from your explorations whenever you please, and be sure of a good night’s rest -- this is definitely not a “party hostel,” so you know it will be quiet.
Rooms and Bathrooms
A&O Hostels are a chain of European hostels run with German efficiency and attention to detail. All the rooms are entered via an electronic key card, and the furnishings are all modern and in good working order, with very comfortable mattresses, and the bathrooms are kept spotless.
They boast one hundred eleven beds in all, from dorms (each with their own TV and shower) to private rooms; during the busy season, you’ll want to make sure that you book in advance, as travelers in the know are drawn to A&O. The dorms are not overly crowded; there are just a few beds in each room, meaning you can enjoy your rest easily, although the rooms are a little bright for daytime sleeping, if that’s an issue for you.
As a bonus, if you’re traveling with children, you can book one of the doubles with two bunk beds additionally in them, and your children can stay for free -- perfect for families traveling on a budget! We were also informed that the prices vary depending on the time of year you stay, so you winter travelers hitting the regions ski slopes can book a bed at a real bargain for such a quality hostel, and Sundays are cheaper, so plan for the weekend!
Common Spaces
As A&O is not really a party hostel, you’ll probably spend more of your time exploring the city and less time in bed. They used to have a bar in the basement, but now only use it occasionally for serving group breakfasts. That means there is no common kitchen area for those travelers who prefer to cook their own meals, but fret not, there are lots of great restaurants in the area, including the famous Bohemian Bagels just a few blocks (a tram stop) away. There’s free Wi-Fi in the hostel, and you can use the internet terminal in the lobby for free as well.
Summary
A&O is the perfect, no-hassle hostel for the budget traveler looking for a nice clean place to sleep in peace. It’s a nonsmoking hostel (hard to find in this part of the world) and the staff is pleasant and more than willing to help you with anything you need. If you’re looking for hotel quality at hostel prices, A&O is your place, and while you’re there, ask them why the only two clocks on the wall are set to Prague and Singapore time!

Good times I stayed here for eight days in august 2006, i had a real good time. The bar downstairs is always full every night and you're guaranteed to meet loads of cool people and get have a great time. the staff are helpful and can recommend good places to go for dinner and good local clubs. Try the chinese restaurant down the road for a cracker cheap feed, all the staff can give you directions. Definitely recommend staying here. — Kiwi Mike , New Zealand (2007-07-22)

It's a great hostel. Room is clean, staff are so nice and friendly. It's a bit noisy because it's near the railway and the road. And it's a shame that they don't offer free linen (you have to pay three euro for it). Go and check out the bar at the basement. The barman, Alex is such a cool guy. They make a special drink at midnight. It's the spot of the night.
I stayed there for three nights. I had so much fun. — Gillian (2006-04-14)

This is a great hostel. It is clean, cheap and the breakfast is great, they actually cook eggs, ham and bacon for you and then they have the normal continental stuff. It was recently remodeled, so it is controlled with key card access, which is nice. But, this hostel is a little out of the way, you have to take a tram to get to most of what a tourist would want to see. The trams run often, so it was never a problem. But, that means that the restaurants in the area are traditional Czech ones with Czech prices. And the bar in the basement is good, though the beer could be cheaper. I would recommend this hostel because it was clean, cheap and I felt safe there. If I were to go to Prague again I would stay there and I've recommended it to friends. — Jen (2006-03-21)

Overall I had a positive experience with this hostel. The rooms are exceptionally clean, and the bar downstairs is cozy and has a great breakfast. I did have the worst experience yet in over a year with the desk people here. I have been traveling for approximately one year all throughout Australia, SE Asia, and Europe, and have never met such a rude desk girl. (only one was so rude the others were great.) The cleaning girl was coming into our private room on the hour and we were a bit worried, so we requested no more cleaning services. The desk girl proceeded to talk to another employee in Czech and begin laughing while we were right there making our complaint!! If that's not rude I dont know what is. Oh well, dont let this dissuade you from staying here. — Scott Quarrie (2005-11-13)

Excellent budget accommodation which we fully recommend. Lovely clean rooms with excellent bathroom facilities. Really friendly staff and an excellent bar down the stairs. Go and meet Alex the barman, who can mix a mean drink. Make sure you rise in the morning for a cooked breakfast and a choice of other fresh juice, flakes, breads and cheeses. The atmosphere later on is always good with a good sound system to listen to, with a good choice of tunes and plenty of people to meet and talk to. The city center is only about 7 or 8 minutes away on a tram, which can be boarded just a minute around the corner. Or it's an enjoyable 20-minute walk for those who like to walk. Transport is cheap and dependable. Ten out of ten!!! — Craig Ganson (2005-08-03)
