Luna Maya Hostel & Wellness is a small boutique hostel offering a total of sixteen beds in three dorm rooms. It is a clean place with a quiet atmosphere, but unfortunately the hostel provides no lockers.
The Location
The hostel is located in downtown Antigua, about five minutes' walking distance from the main square (Plaza Centrale). It is situated in a residential neighbourhood with small shops and restaurants nearby and the area feels safe.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms are very spacious and have two or four bunk beds with an en suite bathroom. Each bed has a light and an electrical outlet and the lower bunks have a curtain for privacy. There are large cupboards in the dorms, but they cannot be locked and there are no lockers available on the property. Doors to the dorms are also not locked, but you are given a door key to be able to enter the hostel after 10 p.m. when the front door is locked. The dorms are clean and the mattresses comfortable. You are also given a towel. There is no air condition or fans in the dorms, as the climate in Antigua is fairly mild year round. There are no screens on the windows and thus some mosquitoes are around.
The bathroom has a shower with hot water, but very weak water pressure. There are hooks for clothes and a large sink area available to keep clothes dry while showering.
Common Spaces
There is a large common area on the ground floor around a small, open courtyard. There are plenty of benches, barstools, and tables around, but there is no kitchen for use and no dining table to eat takeaway food or anything like that. There is also a lack of comfortable couches and chairs, and sadly also no book exchange. Additionally there is a tiny roof terrace with lawn chairs with nice views over Antigua. The hostel has a subdued atmosphere and is not a place to get chatting to fellow travelers.
Summary
Luna Maya is a small, clean hostel but could be vastly improved by adding lockers to store your valuables. There is good Wi-Fi throughout the property, but the Wi-Fi codes posted inside the dorms might be out of date (ask at reception for the new one).

• How to reach us:
• The hostel is 1 hour and 30 minutes from La Aurora Airport by taxi or bus. The closest airport to the city of Antigua is La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City, about an hour's drive away. This is the country's main airport.
• You can also jump into the chicken bus. It will take you to Trebol junction in Guatemala City, from where you can catch the Transmetro into Zona 1, there are also some red buses that go from Trebol to the airport.
