The Hostelz.com Review
The Lake Louise HI hostel is tucked away amongst pine trees trimmed with snow, surrounded by towering mountains. The spectacular lake is a hilly five kilometers away, and a small supermarket and other speciality stores are just down the road.

This hostel is an amazing place to stay. It is more like a hotel than any hostels this reviewer has stumbled across. Dorm rooms have four to six beds, complete with bathroom including a small but cosy shower, and private rooms are plentiful.

Whilst it is a little more expensive than the average hostel, the adage "you get what you pay for" is certainly true. Upstairs, a large common area with fireplace, comfortable sofas and internet facilities looks out onto snowcapped peaks. Wireless internet is also available.

The basement holds a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, laundry and sauna, and the hostel also hosts a delicious cafe with great specials and very tasty meals. Perfect after that day on the slopes!

For job seekers, there is an updated notice board with local opportunities, as well as lots of general info for other guests. The hostel is run in conjunction with the Alpine Club of Canada and possibly because of this, looks like a ski chalet. Do yourself a favour and stay here!

Nice location
But only if you like listening to the freight train go pass several times all night long, small enough to fit into the double room which has a bed size of one-and-a-half single beds put together, and being given very useless help by the counter staff about where to go. This guy was more into staring into his computer. When asked where the grocery store was, he told us to go the gas station instead. When asked for rates for the internet, he did not bother to offer the alternative of paying more for more hours but simply sold us the expensive short term one.

A very good hostel but a little bit pricey. It is more like a hotel than a hostel! The upstairs lounges are really nice.

On my first trip to Lake Louise I stayed at the Post Hotel (fancy 5-star place just down the road) but we ate all our meals at this hostel. The food is great and moderately priced, they have a wonderful outdoor seating area, and they are the only place around that serves breakfast late. On my next trip to Lake Louise I stayed at this hostel and wish I would have stayed here on my first trip. The building is beautiful, they have plenty of parking, common area and upstairs lounge areas are like a nice hotel, and the downstairs kitchen is huge with a big seating area. The dorm rooms and shower area were standard issue but clean. Friendly and helpful staff. The only bummer – their Internet terminal was out of order while I was there (but you can try the terminal in the hotel across the street). I would definitely stay here again.

This is a mighty expensive place for what you get. The common room is comfortable with amazing decor and the kitchen is decent, but the dorms are just dorms, albeit lovely and clean and with not too many beds. The staff are friendly and helpful. Although the cafe is really nice, it's too pricey for your average backpacker (although if you're not an enormous eater I do recommend getting the nightly special takeout and making it last two meals, especially the pasta). Also, the Internet costs, and is often not working. If you have $$$ to spend this is a lovely place to chill, but if you're on a typical backpacker budget I wouldn't plan to stay here too long.

This is the best hostel I have ever stayed at. It has a great staff, and awesome location and superb development. At Christmas time in Australia I told my Uncle that I'd been to Lake Louise and he said, "Did you stay at the hostel there? How good is it!" He had been there and loved it as well.

One of the best hostels we have ever stayed at. It was just like staying at a lodge in a national park, at a fraction of the price.

This is an excellent value! The facilities are modern, and comparable to a hotel. (But stay in a hotel in Lake Louise and you'll pay much, much more!) I recommend this hostel.

We recently stayed at Lake Louise. There is a nice big upstairs loft with a fireplace. The waitress at the cafe was great--a funny Australian lady! We found the bed to be so-so, but the toilet was in the same room complex area. The showers are down the hall, but there are three or four of them. The month of May is "shoulder season" and a good time to go. The weather varies, so take summer and winter clothes (some of each, anyway). The computers were all out of order at the end of our second day, so we could no longer surf. There's a nice history about the Alpine Club of Canada, who bankrolled the building of the place. HI also put money in, so it was a successful joint effort. Quite meditative! Cheers and happy travelling--the International Youth Hostels are worth it--nice to be around other travellers, even if you don't chat a lot to other people. It took me back to when I was in my 20s and hostelling in Europe. Their regular prices may not be that cheap for private rooms if you don't get a special. Walk around Lake Louise if you can--climb the side of the mountain for a few hours to get to the tea house--but be careful and wear good shoes...it is on the side of a mountain. Take water and snacks with you, and take a jacket and check the weather. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY TRAVELS!

Clean, with a FABULOUS RESTAURANT! The restaurant had World-class eats and free coffee refills. We rented the private/couple room a few times and it is well worth it. I definitely would recommend this hostel!

A bit expensive, a bit fancy for a hostel, this has had a lot of money sunk into it to reflect all the atmosphere of Banff and Lake Louise tourist areas. For all the giant wood beams, though, it's just a hostel with hotel-type rooms and a nice sitting room. This place is so big it has its own staff quarters, and rarely takes help in exchange for another night. It has clean, hot showers and all the amenities, and it's the cheapest thing you'll get in Lake Louise. And it's big, so meeting people is never a problem.
