Have stolen personal things i stayed in that hostel for over 10 days and after a trip to panajachel i came back there, because i really liked the staff and the house at all, but i recognized that someone had stolen my ipod, my ear-phones and my 2 usb-flashes with all my documents, music and fotos from my family on them. i was so sad and angry (mainly about THE action, not only because of the things), i was convinced THIS HOSTEL IS THE LAST PLACE in guatemala where such things can happen. i was always friendly with the people there and i trusted them COMPLETELY. nobody else could have stolen my things except one of the staff members, because only them had access to my big backpack (where everything was in), while i was in panjachel. i think, everybody must know, that even there you can't trust the people!i thought i'll leave guate with a better feeling, but this is WEIRD! — Sara , Germany (2011-10-12)

Friendly and helpful staff, pleasant atmosphere My experience at this hostel was really great. I only stayed one night, but Andrea and the other staff members went out of their way to help me find the closest museums and make an appointment with a colleague. The showers were hot and the rooms were clean and freshly painted. The free breakfast was French toast, and they apologized for serving me cheap instant coffee because they had run out of the good stuff. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. — Rebecca , USA (2011-06-10)

Cleanliness, comfort, convenient location Xamanek has to be one of the best hostels I have seen. The dorms are large and airy, with five or six beds each. And the showers are the best anywhere with really hot water all day and no widowmaker electric showerheads. The people I met there where mostly serious, interesting backpackers who did not mind paying a couple of Quetzales more to stay in the zona viva. So no moochers!
I could also walk back home without a worry at bar closing times. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Guatemala City. — Louisg , Quebec (2007-12-21)
