Wouldn't stay here again. The Positives: Wifi in rooms. Location -- supermarket and shopping centre around the corner. 15-20 min walk to downtown San Jose (or you can take the bus. Generally clean. The Negatives: No hot water -- we stayed 2 days and nights, tried 3 different showers at 4 different times of day, also no hot water in the kitchen. When told reception they didn't know how to solve the problem and didn't seem that bothered. Ants and midges in our room -- not a lot in one go, but a constant stream of 4-5. Kitchen facilities not good -- 2 frying pans and 2 saucepans (very dirty), 1 sharp knife. One of the gas rings kept setting alight outside of the ring, by the gas control. Overall not a pleasant stay. — H Durber & R Stewart , England (2011-11-16)

Recommended Only stayed here one night but I liked the quiet neighborhood much better then downtown San Jose. Front desk staff spoke English and were very helpful and friendly. Its clean with free breakfast, internet, and big screen movies, cool art gallery, restaurant. I would definitely stay here again. Recommended. — Kirk , USA (2011-09-30)

Okay, but weird hostel workers and "regulars" There are a bunch of us that have gathered at Casa Yoses every now and again and usually we enjoy the atmosphere and good location, a little fed up, reserve the right to our opinion given that we are paying customers, it's just our opinion. It is relatively clean and some staff members are friendly -- however, it seems that with the new LaDamajuana restaurant came unseemly and just plain gross people like this guy Luke and Amanda OConnor who we think are always stoned and work at the bar but seem to just hang out at the hostel. It's bad enough with the drunk elderly men roaming around the hostel but these two drunks should go to rehab. They are very weird and look to be friends with the hostel owners and that's fine but it may be time they show some manners for the paying guests. — Jessica , United States (2011-02-20)

Good hostel in a good location. Although it is a bit of a distance (about seven-minute drive) from downtown San Jose (quite a sketchy place) the area is much nicer and cleaner and has a plenty of bars, restaurants, and even two malls. Unless you specifically want to stay in downtown San Jose, this is a much better option. The hostel itself is located in a pretty original old mansion. It is clean but could use a few more touch ups, in my opinion. The hostel comes with a pool table, TV, free internet, and friendly, helpful staff. — Anna (2007-01-28)

Nice place. We had some good times in the bars around. "Viva la Calle de la Amargura !!!" — Alan Carter (2005-06-13)

If you want to have a good time, there are lots of bars around. I also went to the volcano and to some canopy. They also have surfing trips. Your vacation is setup at Casa Yoses. — Travis Cole (2005-06-07)
