Excellent! Perfect location (but not noisy), very clean, comfortable beds, great TV lounge/bar. I would highly recommend staying here.

The Coachman is excellent! I stayed here for a week and didn't want to leave. It's an excellent location right in the city (but I never found it very noisy). Friendly helpful staff where nothing is too much trouble. The whole place was exceptionally clean and tidy. Great atmosphere in the bar and TV lounge. It might not have many reviews at the moment but it is definitely worth a staying here rather than anywhere else in Christchurch.

I stayed in several hostels in Christchurch in March 2005 and this was easily the best. It had spotless kitchens and comfy bunks with en suite facilities — so no wandering around corridors in a towel — plus a nice little bar. It's not as large as the other central Christchurch hostels so it has a nice, sociable, uncrowded atmosphere, and the location and price are as good as any.
