Dirty. Well located Really dirty place. The bunk beds room weren't bad. But the shared wc was terrible. Really dirty people over there and cleaner didn't clean at all. Showers need to be urgently modernized, new shower curtain is not so expensive. Only one sink for twelve people is very poor. Breakfast and food at bar not very good. More variety please. Dirty glasses and cups. No towels. Only good thing, very well located. five minutes to subway station. — b112 , spanish (2009-05-10) Very clean and enjoyable ambience I stayed at this hostel two months ago and it was a very nice place. The staff are friendly and helpful, structure inside the hostel is unique with traditional and modern elements, and the washing facilities allow for privacy and comfort. The location is on a small residential street which adds to the flavor however it is a little difficult to find the hostel itself. Look for the "Hostel" triangle sign which right outside. Once you find it you will not be disappointed. There are many special places to see nearby such as People's Square and Nanjing Road. I also suggest the small bakery just up the road. There is a nice courtyard to seat in. Room are cleaned daily and towels are changed. Most of the rooms are close to a community center, which could be a little noisy during the day (music, singing, basketball). The main reason we give only 4 stars and not 5 is the food. The staff are very helpful when you ask them questions. The best part is that all the toilets and showers are one per small room (no huge rooms with lots of showers together), which gives a sense of privacy unlike other hostels. It is tough to find but with a map of Shanghai it's not too difficult. The location on a small residential street adds to the charm and peacefulness. I loved it. — kbellesunshine , USA (2007-04-21) This place has now been refurbished and is very much open for business. I stayed here in April 2007. A very good choice this hostel. Everything is brand new. The location is fantastic, literally two or three minutes walk from People's Square. Rooms have electronic smart card entry. There's a fantastic bar that serves good and cheap food and drink. The bar area also has free wi-fi which is a real plus for those carrying a laptop. However, the wi-fi goes down intermittently yet it doesn't occur to the staff to reset the wireless router, so it's up to savvy customers to find the router and switch it on and off themselves! Also, they really need to publish some location maps for this place. I couldn't find this place when I arrived at People's Square. I phoned the hostel twice, but all they did was keep repeating the address rather than giving me directions! Not much help if you're lost in a strange city! I would have given this place five stars but the lack of initiative in customer service by the staff means they lose one star. — Martin , UK (2007-04-14)
