The Bellavista Hostel is less about a 7 minute walk from the Baquedano metro station and is pretty easy to get to. From the metro station, walk three blocks towards the "river" and cross the Pio Nono Bridge. At the second street after the bridge, turn right. You will be on Dardignac. Go another one and a half blocks and the hostel will be on your left.
The place is very clean and hygienic. It is a very relaxing and comfortable place to stay, with a nice little chill-out lounge by the front desk. There is a pretty good book and magazine exchange as well. There is an outdoor patio in the back, although we didn't see anyone using it. The decor is quite artsy and gives a good vibe to the hostel. There is free internet with two computers. Chile and South American guide books can be borrowed from the front desk for a quick browse. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.
The rooms are very airy and have good sunlight. Lockers are provided (although they are a bit flimsy), since you do not get a key to your room. If possible, ask for a room away from the street as the neighborhood is quite a popular one for going out which means loud music and road noise will keep you awake if you are a light sleeper.

Perfect experience to my south american trip! It was very clean, I never had to wait to use the bathroom or anything in the kitchen. The first night was a bit loud because they were doing construction right across the street and the dumpster was under my window, but they were able to move me to a different room without a problem. I would suggest this place to anyone heading to Santiago, it really made my trip, I only booked one night here to try it out, but ended up staying four! — Rachael , Nashville USA (2009-11-30) Great fun place This was the first place I stayed in S America so dirtiness of city was quite a shock. But if you have to wake up early to catch a flight on Saturday like I did, this may not be the best place for a Friday night stay because Alex or other hostel guests throw small parties, which get quite loud. All other nights were quiet and I would DEFINITELY stay at Bellavista again if I stop in Santiago.
