Jaipur Jantar Hostel is a fantastic place for solo travelers, couples, or group of friends. Not only are there indoor social places, but there is also a large garden.
The Location
Great location, as it’s a short walk down to the main MI road. The area is quiet, as the location is down a side street and dead end, so there is no through traffic. The building is well maintained and the layout is wide spread with plenty spaces to be social. It’s easy to find a quiet corner to sit and read where nobody will disturb you.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Our eight-bed dorm room is one of a few that open up to a courtyard. At night it is lovely sitting outside under the stars, knowing you are completely safe as this courtyard is an open-area in the middle of the hostel.
The beds have study wooden frames and each bed is equipped with a small fan, one electric socket, a bright reading light, and hanging pockets to store a few items. The wooden lockers are large and can easily fit a large suitcase and backpack (you need a padlock to lock it). There is an air conditioner, but the fan is sufficient during the autumn season. The windows have mosquito netting and the door automatically swings shut behind you, keeping little insects outside. The room is very spacious. Each bed can be closed off with privacy curtains. The main light in the room is extremely dim and we find that the reading light is necessary to see what’s going on.
The bathroom is en suite and is big enough. The extractor fan keeps the moisture from the dorm room. The shower is separate and therefore the bathroom floor is always dry. There are hooks for towels and clothes. Towels are not included but can be rented at the reception. There is hand soap, but no toiletries.
Common Spaces
This hostel has so many common spaces. You can walk around and just find a comfortable place to suit your needs. There are electric sockets at all the seating areas. Some areas are just cushions, while others are chairs. There are even a few places where you can sit at a desk to work on your laptop. All these areas have fans, as well as air conditioners. In the center of the courtyard there are also a lot of chairs where you can sit at night, in the cool evening air. Then of course, there is the garden too.
At the entrance of the hostel are lockers for shoes, as well as tables and chairs for more socializing. A great addition is the many restrooms throughout the building. There is no need to go to the dorm room to use the restroom. The kitchen has a fridge and cooking facilities, as well as a table with bar stools. Something we really appreciate is the fact that this hostel provides free drinking water -- just fill up your water bottle in the kitchen. Next to the kitchen is a large room with a projector screen for watching movies. In the corridor, next to the games area, is a notice board with many different activities advertised.
The reception to the hostel is at the hotel next door. It seems to be the same owners. Meals can also be eaten at the hotel. The dining room isn’t very big, but the food is delicious and affordable.
Summary
We absolutely recommend this hostel. With all the many cleaning staff constantly walking around and tidying and cleaning, it is a very comfortable place to stay.
