Tao Kombo Travel Lodge, the quaint and shining cottage houses in the middle of paradise Gili Meno Island, is a great place to stay. Although these cottages are inland (maybe a five-minute walk from the beach) from all the other hotels and homestays on the island, it is well worth the walk. Besides the friendly and personable staff, which has been living on the island of seven hundred inhabitants since birth, and the "bail" hangout, these cottages can make a honeymoon stay. Should you want to hang out with the others, you can go to the "bails" and play chess, cards, frisbee, or play all the instruments that they have for guests' use, or you can stay on your own terrace in the confines of your little home.
Included in your reasonably-priced stay is a cottage house to yourself, fresh water for showers (which is hard to find in Indonesia) and a special homemade Indonesian breakfast at the time of your leisure.
There is a restaurant on the grounds as well serving Indonesian meat and fish dishes (open daily for lunch and dinner).
The rooms are clean, although lizards are known to be found in most cottage homestays. The toilet, shower, and sink are located outside the actual room which either makes it eccentric and beautiful or annoying and not private, however there is a stone wall blocking you from the world.
This stay is what you make of it -- should you want quiet and time "alone" you have a whole clean cottage with a porch for yourself and you can leave and come in without anyone noticing. Or you can join the crew and the rest of the travellers at the bar and just lounge around!
Getting to the cottages is quite easy since there is only one road that goes around the island and one road that goes through it. You have to get there by boat and when you are dropped off (literally dropped off in the water) you just walk straight up the beach to the main road. Look for the tourist office (on the right) and follow the dirt "road" leading from the office. The cottages are a five-minute walk inland, but well worth it!
