The Hostelz.com Review
Location
Fit Hostel is located just a few miles from Keflavik airport, and taxi service is readily available for a reasonable fare. If arriving on your own, be aware that the entrance is not directly off Fitjabraut, there's a small gravel alley leading to it. If you can't find the blue and white Hostelling International flag, you definitely can't miss the dry dock right across the street.
Amenities
Iceland as a general rule has very well-kept hostels, and this one is no exception. Reception may not be open when you arrive, but there is a free phone you can use to page the hosts' cell phones. Dorm rooms hold a rather large number of beds, but allow for enough floor space to comfortably house a couch and some tables and chairs. Common rooms are well-furnished, although you may encounter a few loose connections with the TVs or VCRs. Many movie titles are in English with Icelandic subtitles.
There is definitely no shortage of kitchens, and although some extra tidying may be required, the amount of extra food left behind by former guests will probably make up for it. Laundry facilities, key for any visit to Iceland, are found in some of the bathrooms around the hostel. Washers and dryers may be found in separate rooms. Although they operate without coins, don't assume they are free. You can pay at reception for their use. The hostel also has luggage storage just in case you are on a stopover in Iceland and want to travel light within the country before continuing on your trip.
Atmosphere
The hostel has a quiet and somewhat cosmopolitan atmosphere -- employees themselves may be from out of the country. The guests tend towards groups of adults, and there didn't seem to be any indication that it functioned as a "party hostel."
Attractions
Njardvik is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, one of Iceland's flatter areas. It has a stark beauty that might take some getting used to. The biggest advantage of its location is its proximity to the airport. Additionally, bus service can get you around Keflavik and Njardvik, as well as to the closest attractions such as the Blue Lagoon or whale watching tours from the harbor. And Reykjavik is just thirty miles away.
Price
Iceland is not a cheap vacation for most, so every penny counts. This hostel is competitively priced with other hostels and sleeping bag accommodations in the country, and is a definite savings versus a hotel room. All in all, this hostel is a decent value and makes a great jumping-off point for visitors to the wonderful country of Iceland!

Stayed here in August '06 but was only there for like nine hours, arrived late and left early. But would have liked to stay longer especially cause the girl in the reception with the Liverpool-jersey was so damn pretty. Now I didn't even have a decent chance to get to know her. As with all the FIT-hostels I've stayed in, the hostel was perfectly alright, good value, and friendly staff. — Swede (2006-08-18)
I stayed in this hostel in June 2005. The staff are friendly and helpful but the building is still being renovated so this meant you couldn't use the hotpot in the balcony (not that you wanted to anyway, the weather being what it was). This hostel might have the worst views in the world, as the windows look down on some derelict industrial shipyard landscape — and this, in a country renowned for its natural beauty! This hostel is also where they keep the illegal migrants they catch trying to make it to the USA without papers, but this can include some good-looking Chinese girls, so it's all right. However, it is not a bad hostel at all, there are several kitchens so this is a welcome respite as elsewhere in Iceland hostels have just ONE kitchen, which gets very over-used. Also the common room-lounge is very nice, comfy and welcoming. It's in a extremely convenient location for the airport and excellent food shopping in Njardvik itself. — Steven (2005-09-22)

I stayed in Fit Hostel in March of 2005. It was all right considering I got there at 2 a.m. (due to flight delays) and I was scared. I had never been to a country that didn't speak the same language as me so I was not prepared for that after a long flight. The people at the desk were friendly, which is more than I can say for the locals. My room was clean but very hot (I couldn't figure out the heating system) so I slept with my window open. The bathrooms left much to be desired — very dirty but in working order. The hostel was undergoing renovations, so hopefully that will help. It had free Internet access that was cool. The residents there were pretty friendly. It had satellite TV but due to the weather it didn't work. The kitchens were dirty (dirty dishes piled in the sink and rotting food in the fridge, probably from the residents) but the social lounge was clean and very nice. It was close to the airport, so that's why I stayed there. I would go back if I were ever passing through Iceland again. — Heather (2005-07-13)
