The Hostelz.com Review
Ostinatto Hostel is situated on the edge of the hip San Telmo district. There is a great little supermarket very near to the hostel and the launderette next door is very cheap. The hostel is a quiet, non-party hostel. There is no smoking in the hostel -- a godsend for those that don't smoke. They allow smoking on the balcony. There is supposed to be a non-drinking policy too, but the odd bottle of wine or two for a civilised drink goes unnoticed.

The dorms are spacious with large lockers to accommodate the biggest of backpacks. The dorms at the front support great balconies overlooking the street. The kitchen is well equipped, with two large fridges and two large hobs (but no oven). The bathrooms are good, though there are only two showers per floor, but the showers are very powerful and always clean. There are two internet terminals as well as wi-fi in the chillout area, away from the kitchen. There is a great roof terrace with a BBQ where you can cook your own Parilla.

There is a TV room in the basement, but it doesn't get used much because the music from reception filters down. The somewhat loud music seems to be the only downfall of the hostel. The hostel does free tango and yoga lessons. The tango lessons are great fun and a must if you are there on a Monday or Wednesday.

Buffet breakfast is very good, with lots of fresh fruit, white and brown bread, jams, honey, and dulce de leche and ample supplies of good coffee and tea. Breakfast is very sociable -- a great way to meet other people. Overall Ostinatto is a great hostel. Don't expect any parties from this hostel, instead expect a good night's sleep and a great place to chill out.

What a fabulous hostel, a real break from the norm. Owned and run by a lovely family who are really friendly and helpful. We stayed five days and could have stayed five months. It's brand new 2005 and very classy, more like a trendy boutique hotel than a hostel. The beautiful architecture, decor and fab facilities set this apart from other hostels, and make other ones seem very, very tame! A real highlight of our trip!

This place seems to be following the trend of "hip hostels" in Buenos Aires. The building is amazing, like something out of a wallpaper magazine. It is brand new, very clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is good, close to the middle of San Telmo; five minutes walk to the Subte [subway] and one block from a bus that will take you through downtown, Recoleta and Palermo. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is that it was a bit empty. Out of 60 or so beds there were less than ten people staying. But I'm sure that this will change once it becomes established.
