Fine there are kinda strange people that come in and out -- just watch tv, hang out. and the communal showers suck. it's a pain in the arse to get there with heavy bags from the station but it's not that hard to find. the hostel itself is fine, clean, with lockable cupboards and a drawer, but they're not strong. it's a fine place to stay but if i was to come back to this area again i wouldnt even bother with salerno, it's nothing special, there are other places you can stay that are much nicer. — Jacqui , australian (2007-07-11)

It's good. But lots of American people unfortunately. — Marco (2006-10-23)
ok. communal showers. no. not a prude just -- do you have to do everything together in a hostel? and anyone can walk in! there's no sense of privacy or personal space. a short hike from the train station. is clean and spacious but i really don't like those communal showers. just for those who are like-minded i'm writing to warn you. — not happy (2006-08-02)
Not horrible...but not the best!!! It was cheap, clean and modern. But these are the only positive aspects! While we were there, there were problems with water, so we had access to the bathrooms and showers only from 6-9 a.m.!!! After a hot day visiting, a shower would have been welcome! Also, weird people kept entering in the building and walking around, and the rooms are not locked! And the guy at the reception was there only half of the time, so we had to wait before we got our locker keys! Also, it is not very near the train station. If you want to stay on the Amalfi Coast, try another hostel. Positive point: Salerno is a perfect location for visiting the area (Amalfi, Ravello, Pompeii, Capri, and Naples). — Elizabeth (2005-10-21)

We arrived in Salerno desperate for a bed. We rang up the YHA hostel to find they were totally full. We were told about this place, although we weren't too sure about the directions so I'll go through them here.
When you get out the train station, take the road to your left. You should follow a huge wall for a while and then get to a tunnel. Go through the tunnel on your left, and walk up the main street keeping an eye on the streets on the right-hand side. You need to turn off at the SECOND flight of steps, not the first. The woman in the tourist information kept saying second steps but we didn't know what she meant. The hostel is on the flight of steps, on the right-hand side.
The hostel itself is different to all the other ones we had stayed in. First of all, it is only 12 euros a night, which is cheap! We also had a five-bed dorm for just the two of us for the entire three nights we stayed there. You get your own key for your wardrobe and chest of drawers, although the locks are hardly that strong. The decor is modern, and welcoming. The communal showers are a big drawback, however I never had anybody in them at the same time as me. Although I did have a huge African guy clean his feet in the sinks in the toilets. There seem to be a few locals who live there, as they just seemed to sit and watch TV all day.
The Internet is supposedly 1 euro for 10 minutes, 2 euros for 30 minutes and 3 euros for an hour. However we spent about four hours all together and didn't pay a penny. Even when we asked to go on them!
The hostel is very clean, and it has no lockout. So the cleaners will come in and clean around you if you are there! They are very thorough so try and avoid them! One of the best places I stayed in.
There is also a bar right outside which sells Becks beer for 1.60 euros. Take them back and enjoy them! — Adam (2005-07-30)

This place is creepy. On the plus side it's clean, convenient to supermarkets and the center of town. If you like communal showers, strange guys walking into your room at night and weird people hanging around till all hours, then this is the place to go.
They have Internet charges but people walk in off the street to use it and we were never charged, despite being told we had to pay. The staff were really lazy and never followed through with our concerns about security. Don't stay here if you're traveling alone. — Anonymous (2005-06-07)
