The Hostelz.com Review
The Port Inn is an excellent budget choice for travelers wishing to see Haifa. It is located a few minutes' walk from the main train station and can be accessed after finding the main Yaffa Road. If coming by bus, it is accessible by the 114 or 103 buses from the Hof Hakarmel bus station. In addition, it is a few minutes' walk form Haifa's main attraction -- that obviously being the Bahai Gardens -- and is located near numerous bars and clubs, thus located at a great center for nightlife.
The hostel is cheap and also offers a laundry service for a small price as well as towel rentals. Internet access is also available for a fee.
The dorms are fairly bare, but do the job. The bathroom that is included is horrendous, however, as it is extremely cramped, and it is very difficult to get out of the shower. However, it's not bad enough to disregard the Inn for a night's stay.
The kitchen is great for cooking, and there is an outdoor patio area for eating outside. There's also a common area filled with couches and a TV -- great to meet up with fellow travelers and have a discussion or two about politics or life in general.
All in all, this hostel is recommended for people who don't mind not having the most luxurious hostel, and for people who want to meet new people with whom to travel around Haifa. The area can appear to be a bit sketchy at night, but it is safe to walk around.

Cosy and sociable I loved this place. It was very clean and comfortable, with a great location just a few minutes walk from downtown, the train station and the German colony. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There's a really cosy common lounge, kitchen, and outdoor garden to relax in. It's also fairly priced, probably the best deal in Haifa. The only criticisms I can highlight are that the communal areas are locked at 10pm and the wi-fi costs extra, so they lose a star for that. — Martin , UK (2011-09-11)

Great location, wonderful hospitality! The Port Inn was perfect. The location couldn't be better and the hospitality from the whole staff was fantastic. I was especially grateful to Rachel for helping me plan my day trips to Akko and Nazareth. I was traveling alone and really appreciated her advice and her friendly smile! My room was excellent -- comfortable and spotless -- and breakfast was great. I would highly recommend the Port Inn to anyone visiting Haifa. — Cathy , USA (2010-04-18)

Would Go Back I was pretty impressed with the hostel. The location was perfect for what I wanted to see and do, and the room and bathrooms were clean. The workers generally were also really friendly and helpful. The only one I thought that should keep away from the front desk (he looked like he really wanted to curse me out!), was the son with the longish hair. He just seemed angry and had no patience unlike the other workers. However, no one else had issues with him it seemed. He probably just found me annoying. Anyway, I didn't get breakfast because I was trying to save money but people that did get it seemed happy with it. They also do laundry and get it done right away. Would stay here again and advise other people. — JG , USA (2009-01-05)

Peace, security, and total honesty by hosts. Wonderful staff, starting with Rachel, her husband Rami, their son Zeev, adopted member Maiko, Katy, part time night clerk, Adina, the custodian.
You can trust any of the above with any of your belongings. we left, in the room, over $9,000 US in cash , most of the time we stayed there and nobody touched a penny of it. Would recommend this institution most highly. — Aires Mario da Cruz (Mario & Bernardete) , Canada. (2008-12-07)

Good place I have not stayed at the Port Inn but I have several friends who have, and they liked it. The main comment I want to make for travelers who haven't been to Haifa (I have been several times and have stayed at hotels) is that the Port Inn is in an excellent location for visiting and seeing Haifa and points nearby. It's close to a main north-south train station, it's close to bus stops, it's a few minutes walk to Herzl Street where the buses and sheruts go to Acco and other areas north; and it's close by the Carmelit subway station, which is the fastest and cheapest way to get to the top of very steep Mount Carmel, as well as points in between (ask for a transfer, it might come in handy). It's an easy walk one direction to the Arab Quarter, where prices are good for food. It's an easy walk another direction to the renovated German Quarter (now not populated by Germans, who left decades back during the War) which is very nice and has trendy shops and restaurants and a spectacular view of the Baha'i gardens. — brent , USA (2008-07-15)

Perfect I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Port Inn. i didnt want to leave! Rachel and Rita and the staff were very friendly, helpful, welcoming, and just generally lovely! The hostel itself is very clean and a nice welcoming environment. It was so nice to sit out in the garden and was a very good location in general. The cost of the accommodation was extremely reasonable considering all these wonderful factors, I would highly recommend The Port Inn as the place to stay on a visit to Haifa. I will go back on my next visit, soon i hope. also there is a really nice pub directly across the road called Elis. — Isobel Parkes , New-Zealand (2008-02-20)

I arrived after dark and as promised i was able to park my car. The area looks seedy but really it is just old. The rooms are lovely, clean, and filled with light. The staff were warm, welcoming, and extremely helpful. Breakfast was great -- there was no yogurt but when I asked for some it was immediately purchased. The Port Inn is close to rail, bus, and ferry station. The post office and shops are very close and you will have no trouble finding places to eat and drink. Beer and soft drinks, at reasonable prices, are available at the reception area. I will certainly return on my next visit to Haifa and would recommend it to anyone who asked. — John Dillon , Scotland/USA (2007-04-25)

Superb hostel -- the staff and owners are the friendliest, most helpful people you could ever wish to meet. Rooms are really well appointed by hostel standards, very clean -- superb communal room and outside seating area, well appointed kitchen. All in all a great deal better than many three-star hotels I've stayed in. Fantastic place. — Daniel (2006-10-25)

This place looks really sketchy from the outside, but it is great on the inside. The rooms are clean and well (very basically) furnished. The owners are very nice and will give you lots of advice on where to go and bus routes. The breakfast is also better than most hotels elsewhere in Israel. This place has a great location and you can walk almost anywhere. This place is strongly suggested and a great price. — Ash (2006-09-16)

I was thrilled with my stay here. It was incredibly clean, the staff was the definition of helpful and it was a great location (just ten to fifteen minutes walk from the bottom of the Bahai gardens and the German Colony). I highly recommend the Port Inn to anyone staying in Haifa. — Mina (2006-04-27)
