Avoid! This hostel is in a bad, scary neighborhood far out on the J train, at least a twenty-five-minute ride to Manhattan. The walk from the subway station to the YMCA is scary and definitely not recommended for anyone who can't pass as a hoodlum. Lone, female, and/or elderly people should not stay in this hostel. The room was tiny, with furnishings that haven't been updated for thirty years. The TV didn't work. The showers are coed and dirty. This accommodation was built for homeless people and still looks like it.
Reviewers Wanted: Hostelz.com pays travellers US$10.00 (that's roughly 6€, AU$10, or CAD$10) per hostel to photograph and review hostels. If you're interested, use this form to get more information.
