The Hostelz.com Review
Hosteria del Convento is located in the heart of downtown La Paz, just down the street from its sister-company, Pension California. Located across the street from a busy shopping center, a thriving market, and two blocks from the beach, this place is in a prime location for the all-around traveler. The hostel is a 5 minute walk from the bus station and a good 10 minutes from the marina (where you could possibly catch a ride working on someone's sailboat).
This lodging has your typical hostel-like environment, providing you with the means to meet new travelers or just hang out. It is definitely more of a quiet place and seems to attract an older crowd. If you're looking for a louder, more active younger scene, head down the street to Pension California.
As you enter the building, you are greeted by a beautiful, open-air common space, complete with a palm tree and hoards of plants. Inside this area is plenty of covered and non-covered space to hang out, along with couches, chairs, and a TV to lounge. On the far end of the space are a stove, sink, and tables to eat and drink at.
The rooms are very basic and quite rustic. Many need a new paint job and it's clear more of the aesthetic efforts go into maintaining the common areas. However, the whole area is very clean. The place shares rooms from anywhere between 1 and 7 people, depending on your budget and desire for privacy (1--140 pesos, 2--190 pesos, 3--250, 4--300, 5--350, 6--400) Each room has double beds, a ceiling fan, and closets for storage, along with a basic bathroom containing a sink, shower, and toilet.
