The Hostelz.com Review
Albergue Patagonia is well situated in El Chalten, right on the main drag. It is easily recognized from the street by its cozy brick red appearance. The atmosphere here is very home-like and relaxed. If you want a loud, party atmosphere with lots of people, this is not the place for you. But, if you want to meet a few people, relax, have a place like home, and get personal attention from the staff, this hostel is perfect!

You will enjoy the kitchen and dining area, which has a real comfortable feeling with the wooden tables and benches -- perfect for a cup of tea or mate -- just what you need after a long day hiking or ice climbing! There's a stereo system and good music is played throughout the day. The kitchen has about three stoves, and is slightly small for more than three cooks at the same time. It's kept very clean and there is a sign that reads something like "This is the perfect place to demonstrate the quality of your family education. Please help keep the kitchen clean." It works! Upstairs, there is a little lounge area with some books and plenty of magazines for mindless relaxation.

The rooms are kept very clean and the beds are comfortable. Rooms sleep 4, 5, or 6 people and are very quiet for a good night's rest. Lockers are available outside of the rooms in the lounge area, but bring your own lock. Showers are hot and bathroom is kept clean. A hand towel and soap is also provided in the bathroom, which is a nice amenity.

Bikes are available for rent and the staff are very helpful in organizing glacier trekking and ice climbing courses. They are unique from some of the other hostels in that they can book with a company that takes out smaller groups, so you get more attention and time on the ice than the bigger outfitters. They also give great hiking advice.

Average (but probably good by El Chalten standards)
Well-cleaned hostel. Individual reading lights for each bunk. Lockers available for a refundable deposit. Inconvenient requirement to charge iPods/batteries in a cupboard that has some plugs. Would be nice if they got some Wi-Fi but the same criticism could probably be leveled at every hostel in the town. Staff a real mixed bag -- the dark-haired girls would hardly give me the time of day (and one of them would only play U2 on the stereo for the duration of her shift), but the blonder one was extremely helpful.
