5 Excellent people
I stayed in this hostel in May 2008. The whole atmosphere is great, from the great organisation to the great bar. The staff at the desk have a good range of tours from Hanoi (such as Vietnam high country trekking) so I suggest you ask them as soon as you check in, and can book flights with the help of their Vietnamese employees (sure fixes a few language problems). In general the next time I'm in Hanoi, I'm in the Hanoi backpackers.

5 Excellent!
We weren't really managing to find the "real Hanoi" until we rocked up to this place, run by two friendly (nuts but nice) likely lads. We stayed there in April 2007. They're knowledgeable and genuinely want their guests to have a good time.

5 This place is easy to find by the great church. There are a lot of people who try to meet ya at the bus station and scam ya hard so just book the place, get a map, and go! The staff is great. The tours they offer may be legit and safe, but they do cost a lot more than if you were to go with another agent. Also if you like Kareoke they have a bar that has some interesting singers that will be able to hear till midnight but after that they shut the place down. All and all great location and good people.

5 Stayed for six nights in June '06 in the double ensuite room with aircon. Room was very spacious and clean with a huge double bed and wardrobe for your clothes. Also has an useful shelfing to place your bits and bobs, plus small coffee table and chairs. WC/Shower room was adequate and clean. Hostel is off the main road, so it's fairly sheltered from the road noise. The Aussie owners Max and Michael was very sociable and very knowledgable with any tours and town details. Same with the reception staffs (Triau and Huong), always very obliging. They provide free broadband internet (although only two PCs), but still a pretty good perk to have available. Eating area is fairly small, but given the cost of living in Vietnam, it's no big deal to eat out. We bagged up our washing and it was efficiently returned next day all fresh and folded up for minimal cost. Highly recommended!

5 We have been on the road for over a year now and Hanoi backpackers still holds the position of the best hostel ever. We were supposed to spend three days in Hanoi and we ended up spending three weeks in the place. Max and Yen couldn't do enough to make us feel at home. As we sit in a second rate hostel in Australia we dream of the Hanoi backpackers comfy beds and homely feel. The ratings say it all.

5 This place is really, really good. It's almost the perfect hostel. The (Aussie) management is friendly, the location is convenient for the old town, you get free breakfast, free tea and coffee and free Internet, there were interesting people there. The beds are comfortable, you get a locker, there is a bar upstairs (though it's on the roof and has to be shut at 12 because of the neighbours). There is hot water all the time, no mean feat in Vietnam. Oh, and you can organise tours, though the management isn't in the least pushy with them. They employ a girl who speaks passable English and will walk with you around Hanoi for free. I was sorry to leave and could easily have stayed longer.

5 The best hostel we stayed in! The beds are so comfy, and there's plenty of lockable storage, Internet, and everything you need. The staff really knew their stuff. Excellent atmosphere, everyone was friendly and highly amusing! I liked the bar. :)

5 I had a great time here! The rooftop bar goes off! You just don't want to get out of the beds. The staff made my stay in Hanoi a pleasure and gave me the run down on what to see in the north. I didn't want to leave.
