The Hostelz.com Review
It took us around twenty minutes to walk to Witch's Hat from the train station, but taxis are readily available should you not wish to walk. The hostel lies in the heart of the Northridge district of Perth, which is good for cafes, bars, restaurants, and clubs. The center of Perth is easily walkable and takes around twenty minutes.
From the outside, Witch's Hat is probably the best-looking hostel we have stayed at. The inside isn't too bad either. The place is run by a guy called Hopper who used to be a tour guide for a large Australian tour company and really could not be any more helpful. If you want to know anything about Perth or the surrounding area, ask him.
The hostel is clean all round. There are bathrooms for both male and female, and also some shared. The kitchen has ample cooking facilities and plenty of utensils to go around. There is a large eating area outside undercover and also just adjacent to the kitchen is an area inside. The lounge area is large and has a huge plasma television on the wall. At the rear of the lounge there are also four terminals for using the internet -- just see Hopper to buy the prepay cards.
The bedrooms are well prepared. They come with bed linen so sleeping bags are not required. Some of the rooms have televisions already in them. There are enough plug sockets to recharge your phones and cameras. There is also a laundry, should you require it. They request that nobody makes excessive noise beyond 10 p.m., which everyone appears to comply with.

Had the best 2 weeks ever! An amazing place to stop, nothing but great times, excellent accommodation, have since recommended the hat to many others. You have to stay here, you will not regret a second!!! — Hannah , UK (2012-05-08)

Nice hostel AND VERY FRIENDLY PEOPLE. COMPARE TO OTHER HOSTELS VERY CLEAN. — Anonymous , DUTCH (2012-01-06)

Cozy, comfortable, and welcoming! We love this place! Will certainly stay there again! Toilets are clean with good facilities. The mattress and pillows are one of the most comfortable we had in our whole trip -- we slept really well! The room is cozy and well-furnished. Comes with extra blankets. Charming atmosphere with pleasant people and really cool building! Good to book or you may not get a bed, and that will be crap. — Ann & Vi (2009-10-15)

Great place! This is a lovely hostel located in a residential area within five minutes' walk of the Northbridge area and the free Blue CAT bus into the city. I stayed in a four-bed dorm, which had plenty of space to spread out and small lockers big enough to lock away your daypacks in. Facilities are clean and plentiful, although the girls bathrooms were a bit on the chilly side! Hostel has a nice TV room with a big widescreen TV. DVDs are available from reception. There's also a TV in a room off the kitchen if you don't fancy the DVD! Four computers with fast internet access are located in the main TV room. The one thing that did mar it a bit is the fact that none of the rooms had locks and, although you needed a code to get into the driveway and in through the front door, sometimes during the day both the gate and the door were already open! Ideally, lockers in the rooms that are big enough to hold a large bag would be better than the small ones they have. If you are at all worried about your bag going walkabout, buy one of those steel cables with a padlock so you can attach your bag to the bunk bed! Overall this hostel is clean and well looked after and has a really nice, chilled atmosphere about it and I definitely recommend it! — Jay , UK (2008-07-24)

man, i loved it there. Would recommend it to backpackers. — alfie , uk (2007-04-09)

I only stayed here for 1 night in October but the hostel did seem to be really well equipped with a friendly atmosphere. It was more like someone's home than a hostel and seemed a great place to chill out. Not quite as close to all the action as some hostels in Perth but a 15 min walk isn't too bad! — Robbie (2007-01-30)

We stayed here in February and it was FANTASTIC!!! The people were so nice and it was our home for two weeks!! We will definitely return!!! Loved it! Our favourite hostel in Oz. — 3 girls (2005-11-28)

Clean, modern, well equipped and well furnished. It seems to attract a great bunch of people. It's a 5 to 10-minute walk to nearest free CAT bus stop, a 15-minute walk to Perth center, and the supermarket is a 10-minute walk. — Anonymous (2005-04-20)

I had a great time here. The Hat made Perth into a home for me. It attracts great people and the staff are excellent. It's the best hostel I've stayed in. Leaving was hell but I'll be back. — Kev (2005-02-21)
