5  I came here after staying somewhere else and what a difference this place had made to my stay. 1770 Backpackers may not be as big or new as others but I tell you what, the staff here are the best I have seen since being in Australia. It is a home away from home, charming in style, located in the heart of town and very close to the beach. You are not a number or a $ sign here, these people care about you and make sure you get the most out of your money. Every activity is AWESOME: Kayaking in 1770 was beautiful and refreshing, Thundercat surf race boat is total adrenaline, Scooteroo tour is amazing, the surf lessons are only $16.50 and the flights was unbelievable. I did all of the above and still have loads of cash to do the rest of the East Coast. I have just got back from my sailing trip with New Horizon which was organised for me at a cheap price because I booked it through 1770 Backpackers and it was brilliant. Take my advice and stay at the best hostel ever!!!!  , USA ()
5  Fantastic place, one of the best hostels, I've stayed in during my time in Oz! Everything is small and sweet and charming and the staff are just wonderful. Nothing to complain about, what more to say?  ()
4  This is a small, friendly backpackers with great bathrooms and kitchen. The dorms are clean and there is a nice outdoor area with hammocks. I've found all the staff here to be friendly! There is a lot to do in 1770 for such a small place so book more than two nights!  ()
5  This hostel was amazing. My mate and I got stuck in the small town of 1770 for Christmas 2004 and thought it was going to be a bust, we ended up being totally taken in by the owners and treated like their own children/friends. We were made food for Christmas dinner, bought Christmas treats and beer! tanned nude on the deserted beaches on Christmas Eve Day --amazing. Our friends came up in their car to visit and were completely welcomed into their family as well. These people were amazing to us. The place was gorgeous. the jacuzzi -- i mean, seriously guys, 16 a night and you get a Jacuzzi, pool, awesome kitchen fully stocked -- an oven! You backpackers know how big of a treat this is! and a gorgeous view. Tons to do. Loved it.  ()
3  This hostel was OK, if a bit bare. The staff were great to me, really friendly. The only reason it didn't get 4 stars is because the layout was weird. Our double room was accessed through a dorm and, although it was quiet, the wall between the rooms only extended about 8 feet off the ground. (There was a big gap between the wall and ceiling, so it was a bit difficult to get privacy... if you know what I mean!)  ()
1  I think that this place has one of the best atmospheres in Oz, although I really think that D*CK, a.k.a. Richard, should sit down and shut up and just relax. But besides that, it's cool.  ()
4  Really relaxed atmosphere, a good kitchen with sharp knives (thats worth something!), and, of course, very friendly staff that pick you up from everywhere around the hostel!  ()
2  Centrally located is about the best part. Having said that, it was great to hang out and chill for a few days without the crowds found in larger hostels. The owner/Manager does need to take some happy pills.  ()
5  Don't know if Nathan is still there (?) but I went travelling around a lot of Oz and have some of my best memories in 1770. And it was this hostel that helped make the stay sooooo great!  ()
2  It's small, with an angry owner.  ()
