Besides its natural wonders, Vang Vieng is increasingly known for its party scene and Vang Vieng Rock Backpacker is no exception to the trend. The hostel, which is in the middle of where everything is happening, attracts a large number of young people, and while its comfort levels are not too high, there is always somebody around to socialize with.
The Location
In the tiny town of Vang Vieng, it really does not make a difference where you base yourself, as everything is in walking distance. However, if you are looking for an extremely central location, then look no further as Vang Vieng Rock Backpacker is in the middle of the main street, with lots of restaurants, supermarkets, souvenir shops, and tourist agencies all around it. It is also pretty convenient that there is a lady selling soups right on the hostel's doorstep; you can buy a portion from her and eat it on the hostel's terrace right away! The only spot that might be a little further away is the bus station, but most companies offer pick-up from your accommodation anyway.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dominant theme of the hostel is the red-and-black colour combination, which gives a rather strong first impression. These as well are the colours that dominate in the rooms, which are found on three floors. You have several options for room types, and female-only arrangements are also available. The dorms are spacious with only a few bunks inside, but do not offer any extras; even some of the bedside lamps are broken already. The bathrooms are near the staircase on every floor and there are plenty of them so you will have no problem finding an available one.
Common Spaces
The entire ground floor is dedicated to the common areas. In front of the hostel, there is a large terrace where you can just sit and watch the everyday life of Vang Vieng unfold in front of you. As you enter the hostel, you will find a huge bar dominating most of the lobby area. This is the place for parties every night, but they end at midnight and the noise won't reach your room even if you are staying on the first floor. In this area, there is also a pool table, and in the mornings this is where breakfast is served (it's an egg-based dish and a slice of watermelon). There is also a quiet room for reading and working, but this is rather shabby.
Summary
If you are into the party scene, you will definitely enjoy this budget hostel that attracts a large number of people with whom you can socialize. The free breakfast is a welcome extra, but somehow the place feels neither cosy nor too safe, which might partly be due to the very dark decor.

• Vang Vieng Rock Backpacker Property is located on the main street of Vang Vieng, 300 metres south of the town center. If you arrive at the new bus station you may need to take a tuk tuk as it is 2 kms to the center of town. If you are dropped off at Maliny GH then it is just a 300 metre walk south. If you are dropped at Thavinsouk Resort it is about 600 metres back towards town to our place.
• When you arrive at the bus station, There will be tuk tuks parked at the bus station they charge 10,000 kip and take about 5 minutes to arrive at vang vieng rock backpacker hostel.
• Main road, Vang Vieng where the transfer from bus station drops off. On the left after Milano Pizza restaurant and Room 111. Before Peeping Soms restaurant.
